Flush out the toxins?!? seriously?!?

it’s a beautiful marketing concept, especially since these “therapists” prey on people like Robin who are significantly overweight, underrested, physically inactive, etc. They sell a magic cure that will “flush the toxins” that are making you fat and tired. Hilarious, my favorite part is the coffee enema. Fucking genius.

what gets me is the “poop 3 times a day” part. honestly, if someone eats healthfully on a consistent basis–sleeps well and is physically active, they’re probably going to the bathroom that much already.

from what i saw in those pics it is obvious those people had very poor diets for a very very long time. and in the descriptions many wrote, “i tried everything; exercise, pills, etc” but none of them say “i ate whole foods, rested, reduced stress, and led an active lifestyle”. (because people who do those things don’t have colon problems!)

Proteins used for instance in immune response.
otherwise, wiki will tell you a lot more.

they are kind of important

That’s ridiculous. TNF alpha goes up whenever the wind blows north. The fact that a cytokine is expressed is only indirectly assuming all downstream products are up regulated in turn–not always entirely true. Not to mention the high powered journal that was published in.

Maybe you’re being facetious, though.

I want my own institute!

I could come up with great mediciney sounding reports, too!

OK…you have a point here…I just checked on pubmed and didn’t check the actual ref. in the paper, thinking that pubmed would be enough…

so how educated are your massage therapists? are you jealous that they probably know more about soft tissue than traditional MD’s, Chiropractors, etc.?

Of course there are many who are not that educated, but until people delve more into biology, organic chemistry, and then specifically soft tissue characteristics, odds are that very few will be able to understand the vast realm of what “toxins” are, how they are produced.

Of course, until some friends of mine received some information being done in a study (not on the web from what I can find), I didn’t know how long it took and how little hydration actually occurs when one drinks a bottle of water anyway

riiiiiight … the vast realm of toxins … i’m sorry, but it’s these vague kind of statements that make me squint and tilt my head like a dog hearing a whistle …

I thought toxins just built up when you started to get OLD. :stuck_out_tongue:

And you get old at what age?

I’ve never had a massage in my life, and I don’t appear to have any more toxins than anyone else. I don’t stretch much or do yoga and I’m perfectly flexible. I’m injury free too. I don’t cleanse my system via starvation, water drinking, or herbs. I don’t drink 8 glasses of water a day. I drink lots of soda and coffee, I eat a fair share of processed foods, I boycot anything organic yet I feel great, energetic, and have very low bodyfat and perform pretty well.

Based on what I read and hear from a lot of ‘athletes’ this should be impossible. I should be dead from toxin accumulation and ‘chemical’ accumulation and I should be lethargic all day from eating chemicals.

=)

we must purge, flush, vent, extract, supplement … so that we can purify, clarify, augment, cleanse … ourselves of toxins … impurities … free radicals … waste products … from our fluids, tissues, system, organism … sigh

… ok … nevermind … i guess i’m coming off as a dick … like i said … nevermind

It’s been going on forever

My neighbor ios going to bring me some toxins because I let him borrow my jeep yesterday. Yummy red ones. Hopefully Malbec, those are my favorite toxins.

That reminds me of last night, a young lady and I were contemplating the potential negative effects of caffeine to health…

as we drank alcohol…

haha

Are you crazy? Caffeine is like mother’s milk.

You still breastfeed?

The photos in that link are rude! I can’t believe someone put their “results” in a kitchen colander. I may never eat pasta again.

Here’s my favorite quote from the product site:

“Other benefits that have been reported to us include deep emotional catharsis leading to an amazing clarity. One theory on this says that emotions can become trapped along with the intestinal debris and when they are released one may relive old emotional experiences leading to a great freedom of internal energy.”

Mine!
