Fluid vs Mag?

I’m looking to buy a trainer ASAP. I’ve been looking for deals and my last one on ebay just fell through in terms of my budget. What’s the difference I’ll notice between a fluid and a magnetic trainer? I’ve only ever been on a fluid. I know it’s a step down, and that they’re louder? But in terms of the actual ride and workout you get, will it really be a considerable difference?

I was looking at the Jet Black Fluid, which didn’t work out. What about the mag version by Jet Black?

Thanks for any advice!

I would take a long hard look at the “Angry Badger” deal on www.bikesportmichigan.com.

The name shall not be spoken, but you will get the trainer you actually want for a great price.

I’d take a long hard look at Ebay.

Both excellent options. And I did, unfortunately I’m living in Australia at the moment and the availability of good deals over here aren’t quite the same as back home, and shipping on one of these things would either be through the roof or DAMN slow… I just struck a deal with a LBS to get a Jet Black Fluid, brand new for $250 shipped to me. These I think are a new model and are retailing for $400… I have to give feedback on a local forum. I guess I lucked out large.

Fluid - quieter than magnetic and more realistic resistance.
