Fluid on knee...drain?

No pain, just an obvious bag of fluid on the top of my kneecap. Very pliable…I’m guessing it must be a-cellular. Been there since yesterday with not much change overnight, but, still fairly large. I’m guessing about 25-30 cc’s. I didn’t exercise at all yesterday, although I did get on this knee on a hard floor earlier in the day.

Leave it alone and go on like usual (since there is zero pain or discomfort with it). Drain it? Simple enough to do, but, unless it is potentially beneficial, why do it?

Thanks!

anyone?

if you’re asking should you puncture it yourself, I’d say no way - I mean, I know you if anyone could probably keep it sterile, but still… Can you get an ortho doc (or I guess maybe a dermatologist) to look at it at work? It’s a symptom of something, and if you just eliminate it that something could still be going on…

Don’t trip and pop it. That would be gross.

Yeah, I’ve sewn myself up on a couple of occasions…interestingly, the needle hurts worse coming out of the skin from underneath than going through the skin from the top. I guess the pressure sensing nerves are more stimulated when going in, over-riding some of the pain sensation.

Anyway, had a couple of people at work look at it…Pre-patellar bursitis is the diagnosis. Can drain it, or just compress it and see if it resolves. I guess I’ll just do that…although it’s not nearly as fun as sticking it.

Thanks!
