He looks very uncomfortable.
“He looks very uncomfortable.”
19k TT at the Tour? … I should think so.
I like that little wheel on the Hooker. Like to get myself a custom rig with two wheels that are small like that. Any idea what size that front wheel is? I’d like to ride a 520mm.
Floyd looks bizarre. I want his bike.
HED makes them, you would of course need a custom frame. It would be UCI legal as long as the wheels are the same size, I believe. Otherwise you can always go 650c.
or get a Bike Friday type set up
Only difference is the head position on the Hooker is correct. Look at Floyd’s helmet – like a flag in the wind. That is not so good. If the guy on the Hooker was riding in Floyd’s helmet, it would be flush with his back.
It is not only about having the right position, but also about being disciplined about holding it regardless of how much you hurt.
On John Cobb’s old bicycle sports page, he showed that some riders are better aerodynamically in the wind tunnel with the aero helmet tilted up like Floyd has it.
That is totally illogical, but perhaps it is so… Is that site still working at all? I’d be very interested as to why that is, since it really makes zero sense.
If the guy on the Hooker …
The guy on the Hooker??? The guy on the Hooker??? Someone slap me if I’m wrong, but ain’t that the great “Bostasaurus”, aka Kent Bostick?
Two different applications…
Landis is using that position the keep himself forward on the seat / leverage. Try that with Walsers and it works the bicep too much…while the mantis position, its much easier.
FL is a great guy. One of these years, we need a US dream team!

Actually I think you’re confusing Cobb’s comment that some riders were better off without helmets (pre-helmets being mandated) because they looked down or to the side and caused more drag …
He may have said that but he also demonstrated by measuring the drag that some people were better when they tilted their fancy aero helmets up. He then showed the smoke flow over their bodies and explained this created turbulence that enabled a better overall airflow. Any mistakes are my recollection of the wording and the experiment.
au contraire my dear Diablo, I also specifically remember him saying that for some riders the end sticking up over their back worked better than keeping the head level. This was not the case for all riders, I am fairly sure it worked best for those who had a “hump” in the back. I used to frequent that forum frequently before it all closed down an I had to come over here instead
Not that I think it would help Floyd because his back looks pretty straight. One can only hope this was taken at the end of the TT when he was going for broke coming up to the line.

.24" front wheel, with the proprietary 60mm spacing for the Hooker fork. I think it is the 520 size.
My old race bike (Sommer Too Rad) was 24" race wheels front and rear…pretty wild design. Still is my favorite bike to ride.
That help braces his forward position. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Comments? … I switch to a different channel everytime they show him in ITT
Looks horrible to me - but it seems to work for him…

Any more info on this? Is it a tri bike or road bike? Any pictures? When was it made, and by whom?
