Florida Vacation with good bike routes

Any suggestions for locations with a quaint town with nice bike routes(not by strip malls or gated communities) preferably with some community pools and parks for young kids? Winter Garden may be an example. Thanks from the Windy City.

Clermont - right by Disney and great riding with the National training center right there. Winter Garden is a short drive. Otherwise Panama City…

Clermont has hills & the self-proclaimed national training center is a nice facility.
Panama City? The red neck riveria… Flat, windy & humid.
Tallahassee has some hills north of town & several good routes south of town (the ride to the light house & Wakulla Springs is worthwhile).

Clermont. If you stay in Winter Garden, you will end up riding over to Clermont anyway. This way, you get to avoid excessive riding down 50. Now to clarify, there are no nice, small, quaint towns in FL. There is big and then there is redneck/ white trash. Thats about it.

Highly recommend the Beaches of South Walton. They are on the Gulf in NW Fla between Panama City and Destin. The Beaches are on Highway 30A and contain the small towns of Rosemary Beach, Seacrest, Seagrove, Seaside, Water Color, Grayton Beach. Awesome family location for the beach. Great riding up and down Highway 30A on the road or on paved trails. Tons of things to do. No strip centers like Panama City. However, if you want to stay there and still get in monster ride you can drive 30 minutes into Panama City and do the IMF course.

How long are you going to be there? How old are your kids?

I will chime in on Clermont and Winter Garden for the biking. For the spouse, kids though it may get boring pretty quick. Winter Park is a quaint little town, worth visiting, but not much there except cafes. Clermont has the park and beach, but not much else at all!

There are some nice condo type family resorts south of Clermont you might want to check out.

Glad to read this, since I’ll be in Clermont for 3 days next week and have a bike rented. Have to spend some time at the Orlando Parks and Shopping Malls with my wife, but can hopefully sneak away to ride for a couple of hours a day!

Kids are 2 and 5 - really too young to appreciate Disney World. I think a nice pool and park will keep them happy. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Not too young for Disney at all. They won’t remember it and could be entertained for less $ definitely. I would look for a “resort” type lodging with lots of amenities. It all depends on your budget. Its been awhile since we traveled with a young one, but I have a lot of experience in finding things to do while my husband is out training. We go to two or more conventions a year in Orlando. Between business meetings and training, I have a lot of time to kill on my own.

I will look for family resorts between Western Orlando, Claremont and Winter Garden.

I will also look into South Walton area.

I greatly appreciate everyone’s help.

I am struck by the seemingly few nice ride options in such a big state.
