Who’s going? Where are you staying? Where’s the party?
Weather looks pretty normal. High of 90, ~80 for race times. The lake should be warm as in previous years but not boiling. I think it’ll be a good race. It usually is.
The only negative is that I always stay at the Comfort Suites but it’s booked this year. I know this is Disney and hotels are not hard to come by but still…tradition is tradition.
I will be at Disney that week but will not be racing. Still registered, still picking up my goodie bag but I will not be able to compete. Kind of bummed!
Definitely no wetsuits - volunteered at the Danskin (same location as 70.3 - just shorter course) this past weekend as a swim angel and it was easily into the lower 80’s. Swam Lucky’s (Lake Cane) this morning and it felt like my bathtub (last check it was lower 80’s)- crazy to believe I was cold without my wetsuit in the same lake 2.5 weeks ago when it was only 72 degrees… I’m more interested in whether we’ll have headwinds this year - we’ve been experiencing some consistent winds lately with some not so fun gusts - been watching the timing of when the start the last few days and seems they start to come out of nowhere around 9am and progressively build - will be interesting - anyone remember what the winds were like last 2 years, I did it in 2008 but can’t remember about winds was my first HIM and was more focused on how excited I was to be finishing it - but this time I care about how quickly I finish… In fact last Sunday the lake was actually choppy because it was so breezy (although a front had pushed through the night before). Will be a scorcher as usual - can’t wait til this race is over so I can go back to running early in the morning instead of planning every workout for the middle of the day to “acclimate”! Hopefully there will be plenty of ice. Staying in our comfy RV so we can walk to transition - only reason we put up with a 3 loop run course cause it’s such an easy race logistically with the family and gear.
Thx - I figured so, just wanted to make sure as far as wesuits go. what’s up with the swim waves? It seems crazy that they start the 35-39 age group so late considering it’s one of the fastest. I’m assuming this is to get people off the course sooner…
Watch out for the gators and be ready to skim your belly on the ground it’s so shallow in Lake Louisa - but it’s an option to get adjusted to lake water this afternoon. However, a better option is tomorrow morning at 7:45am at Lucky’s Lake - a round trip crossing (about 1100 yds - 1k) will get you a signature on the wall of fame (now ceiling) and a free bumper sticker! www.luckyslakeswim.com
Thanks. Just need 20 minutes to move the arms a bit. Actually, the spot at Lucky’s Lake is pretty close to us, I think. Rode down that way last night. Is the lake accessible at any time? I’d rather not go all the way out to Clermont if I don’t have to, and will regret the swim.
You can only swim at Lake Cane from Lucky’s House at the designated times which is 6:30am weekdays and 7:45am Saturdays - be prepared for a mob scene on Saturday’s - I like weekdays better, although I must say there are so many people out there on Saturdays now it’s getting to feel like a mass swim start at a race! There is no public “lake access” at other times and it’s very clear you don’t swim in the lake from Lucky’s except at the designated hour - he’s so generous to provide free access daily at his own home that everyone completely respects the rules. Enjoy
Thanks. I should have posted last night and got my ass out of bed this morning, as that would have been perfect. I agree that this is really generous of the guy. I’ll have to remember that on my next trips down here. I sure appreciate your help. Maybe I’ll just go over to the Y Aquatic Center across the I…
