Flip Turn Question

Sunday I am doing a sprint distance triathlon with a 400 meter pool swim. We will swim 50, go under the lane line and back the opposite direction the next lane and repeat until the 400 meters are finished. As the pool that I train in is typically full so i have not had an opportunity to practice this going under the lane until this evening when I found that I suck at it. I tired doing the turns close to the lane line and going underneath coming up but it seems so slow, seconds longer than my usual flip turn. I tried a few open turns but not really any better. I guess I can lift the lane and duck underneath. Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

If you’re allowed to hit the wall of the lane you’re in, and then just surface in the other lane, do open turns. Hit your wall and quickly turn towards your next lane, push off hard at the angle and keep swimming in the next lane. It sounds like flip turns for you are novice, so this will be quicker and you get that extra breath. Good luck!
