I just got a P2 and with the seatpost and saddle position, my old under-saddle bag doesn’t fit under my saddle anymore. I know some people use a sonic wing or something similar for hydration and to store whatever they want to take with them in terms of spare tubes, CO2, etc. Are there other options, assuming I don’t want to put a sonic wing (or something similar) behind my seat post? I know you can put a bottle cage and put a bottle in there with your CO2/tube, etc. but I am trying to keep the frame as “clean” as possible. But I do like carrying a spare tube, etc. with me. On training rides I can just put it in my jersey but in races that is clunky. Just curious what people do/what the pros and cons are and what my options are. I have an aerodrink on the aerobars for hydration so wouldn’t really need the sonic wing for that (and don’t really want to rehash the issues with aerodrinks that people have). Thanks for your thoughts!
Tape is your friend. I tape a spare tube along with a CO2 under the seat. I tape a tire lever to the aero bars and I am done. For racing I just tape a pitstop under the seat.
I too was wanting to keep a “clean line” on the bike.
I ended up putting a Hydrotail on the back of my P2C. I then purchased a “water bottle” that looks like a water bottle but actually is a case with a zipper. Unzip the case and you have two halfs to put tire levers, tube, etc inside the mesh pocket. I had that “tool bottle” in one cage and a regular water bottle in the other. Areobottle on the areobars and I was all set. Since there were tons of aid stations on the bike, I never used the bottle behind the seat. also did not have any flat tires either.
I have seen others put tubes, levers etc taped to their bike.
I think I read here on the forum about water should be upfront and/or behind, not down on the tube.
Just one Ironman Finishers opinion.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
