First what is the diameter of a standard flag holder and has it changed over time?
Flag from a veteran’s coffin gauche to fly? My wife’s grandfather hung out in Europe in the first half of the 1940’s for a couple of years. Saw France and Germany on a combination walking and riding tour with some shooting excursions thrown in. My wife wants to fly it. I don’t know the etiquette.
Burial flags are typically larger than the standard flag and are usually not suitable for flying.
But I don’t know of any flag protocol that states it cannot be flown under the proper cobditions.

Other experts feel that it would be an honor to display the flag again to show patriotism. Casket flags are 9-1/2’x5’ which is almost twice larger than the usual 5’x3’ house flag

i’d leave it folded and display that somewhere - if you want a flag to fly outside, buy a new one - I wouldn’t want to get the coffin flag damaged

Fly it on special occasions (Memorial Day, 4th, etc)

I seriously don’t understand the question… its a flag… no one else besides you is going to know where it has been.
Personally, it has sentimental value, and flying it is only going to slowly destroy it. I would keep it in a nice display box and fly a different one.
But its you and your wife’s flag, do whatever you want with it…
