FJ Cruiser....bike related

For those of you who have recently posted about bike/tri friendly vehicles…the new Toyota FJ Cruiser has just arrived at dealerships. You may really want to look at this vehicle. I rode my bicycle to work today (yes I work as a fleet manager for Toyota) and it fits standing up right into the back…fold down the back seats and , bam, it slides right in, no adjustment of the seat or anything and lots of additional room for another bike and gear. Just a consumer heads up.

Is the FJ as plastic as it looks?

I might have to give up my Subaru (to the wife) and kind of like the FJ

The FJ Cruiser is a very interesting vehicle. I like the styling quite a bit. A lot of what needed to be improved on the Honda Element is improved on the FJ Cruiser from Toyota. Pretty impressive vehicle.

What’s the price range? It’s still listed as a concept on the Toyota website so it’s hard to find specifics.

I have to admit it is kinda plastic inside but what vehicle isn’t? Its very open and spacious inside and although there is alot of room in the back seat, its a narrow opening to get in there. Tons and Tons of space in the back tho (storage) and I really like the retro gauges and design…worth sticker but I would not pay a dealer surcharge for it. My understanding is that it will offroad like no other and you can count on resale being out of this world.

Kiss the Subaru goodbye if you drive this rig

a bit over 25000.00 for a LOADED 4x4…23000.00 for the 4x2 version
.

I miss my Xterra but not feeding the SOB. What kinda of mileage are they supposed to get?

don’t buy it for fuel economy…trust me on this but you can expect realistically about 14 city and 18/19 HWY…its posted a bit more but you’ll never see it
.

Damn it that is what my Xterra got.

My wife and I are trying to figure out how to pay the Atacama Crossing entry fee for 2007. It is $5600 for the both of us.

Tom,

Thats a good point…it is def an impressive vehicle. When I was “stationed” in the middle east we cruised around in the old FJs and other Toyotas. Granted they were desiels but you just could not kill the vehicle. Toyota makes em to last for sure.

i actually did not realize the current (2007) FJ has the clamshell style cargo doors on the side. I really like that design. Very cool.

what happened to your Xterra? I rolled mine about 3 years ago and I really miss it (except for the mpg).

My husband and I have been looking at the FJ pretty seriously for the last couple of months - are they at all the dealerships now?

Nothing really it was my second one. I beat the hell out of the X but just didn’t want to keep feeding it. I put a ton of miles on both of them and really liked wheeling it.
