Is is possible to put rear bottle cages on an Arione?
Yep. I use an X Lab Flatwing with a Arione.
I use the profile post mount. Don’t bother with the Xwing. You can get it to mount, but good luck keeping the bottles in there…
Yeah, i took mine off after losing dozens of bottles…waste of time having them back there.
For next season I am considering going with the one frame mount, and a single back there. I would still have to rubber band it down and just swap bottles once when my frame one was empty…
I use the Profile dual carrier that mounts to the seatpost; it will NOT mount to an aero seatpost(like my Soloist…), but works well w/ a thompson, etc.

I use the Velocity post mount and have had good luck. The bottles are mounted vertically so they don’t fire out unless you hit a really BAD bump.
I have the Arione w/ a Minoura holder and Profile Kages. I have been running this set up for years, and switched it on to the Arione since they 1st came out. Works great. Until last weekend I could say that I never launched a bottle with this set up…now I can say it has only happened once.
You can get the Minoura from endurosport.com. It is something like $15.00. It is also perfect for fitting a small bag between the rails, and for racing a tubie and CO2 fits back there too.
Good Luck.
I have the Minoura with regular cages. I like the Minoura because it sits lower and I can still fit my under-saddle pack under there. Plus, with the Minoura you can use any bottle cages you want. I have room for two cages, but currently am only using one of them.
I agree with David. The Arione works very well with the Minoura and rarely (never happened to me yet) launches a bottle. The X-lab is a weapon as they launch frequently. As I keep my meal replacement bottles back there it is comforting to know that they will be there when the bonk starts creeping in
The PD aqua-rack is what I used to use but the new TiPhoon bladed post…
I also use the X-lab on an Arione Tri no problems. I use to launch bottles, but that was with the Profile holders. I now use the Specialized Ribcage holders and haven’t had any issues
I have the minoura/arione combo and it worked fine until recently.
Hmmm, Specialized Ribcage. I’ve been launching bottles (2 in the last month) with my profile cages. Used one of my wife’s hairband thingees to help with the holding power of the cage but it’s now a bit too tight.
Question: you really haven’t launched with the Specialized Ribcages? I just called a LBS and they have them.
I have the Xwing on my Arione with Minoura cages. I have never launched a bottle yet.
Does that mean I am doing something right or something wrong
I too have the minoura and it works great with that saddle.

Give it time, my friend, give it time… One very hot day, when you are literally dying for some water, you will reach back there only to find that the xwing has betrayed you.
I actually used Elite and Tacx cages, neither worked without a rubberband. Profile cages did work, but it was only a couple bucks more to buy the entire rear bottle holder than it was to buy the individual cages - and it weighs less.

I’ve had the xwing with minoura cages for about 8 years now without launching - I think this is a pretty good combination for me. And I have ridden on some pretty rough roads - UK, US, Japan, France, Thailand.

Have you mounted it on the Arione?
Here is a picture of mine.

The angle is pretty damn extreme, and the cages are just not meant for that. I had rubber bands on there, but that just made the bottles a pain in the ass to remove and replace.
Carrying small bottles is a compromise I am not willing to make.
Nope, never launched a one. I lost many with the damn Profile ones. I think they are fairly cheap to boot and come in LOTS of colors (red, yellow, blue, etc.)
Actally, I got the idea after seeing a pair on Peter Reid’s Specialized bike at Kona in '03 (of course, his were probably free
I always use the shorter style bottles though, not the real long ones (which I assume you realize don’t work as well)
I have used the Arione since they were released and used to use the XLAB Flatwing. Couldn’t keep bottles unless they were half full. Switched to the XLAB Saddlewing and have not had a problem since. The Saddewing will require modifications though. Since the saddle has the point in the back end of the saddle, I had to put the flat part of the Saddlewing in a vice and bend it down VERY slightly. All is good!
Ditto.
Never lost a bottle in 20+ years of racing/riding out of my frame mounted cages!
