Fixie on Computrainer

Any advantage to putting a fixie on the Computrainer? I’ve done it simply because I still have a few road rides and one duathlon left in the season so I alternate riding the tribike and road bike outside. For the inclement weather days, though or if I get out late, it’s nice to be able to train indoors. It’s kind of a pain to keep setting up and taking down the bike though so I put the fixie on there. Is there any extra benefit to training this way?

Certainly, the exact same as if you put in your road bike…and didnt shift it.

If you are using erg mode, then you don’t need to shift gears even if you have them. In that case the fixie would work the same as any other bike.

the only problem I’m seeing is that it will be hard to calibrate in the roll-down mode, since your cranks will constantly rotate if it’s a true fixie. I’m sure that screws up the calibration. I have a single speed but free-wheel on my trainer, use it only in the ergo mode and since it’s freewheeling, calibration is no issue.

Warm up on the CT, jump off, crank it up by hand, and let go. Sure you’ll be off a little bit, but not too bad.

If you search the CompuTrainer forums on the RacerMate site, there is some discussion of issues with fixies on the CT. Basically, it should work fine. You may have to add some washers under the the rear axle nuts to better fix it in the stand, and as for the rolling resistance calibration, they simply suggest disengaging from your pedals and letting them spin freely after you reach 25 MPH during the calibration spin down. I’ve done some rather hellish rolling TTs on mine, and it is certainly a workout

asking as a non-computrainer person…
oh, and a non-fixie-rider, for that matter…

could you put a fixie on the computrainer and pedal backwards? would it know?

I am guessing riding a fixie backwards on a ct is a fast track to knacker your ct!

For some reason I tried my fixie on the ct a couple of years ago and calibrating was the only issue - not an issue if you aren’t interested in the specific watts but that kind of defeats the point of a computrainer. I guess you could ride a 3d course to experience fixie riding indoors (sort of as you wouldn’t have the same downhill mega cadence effect…

you think you can call it a track stand when you are out of the seat, standing, slightly rocking the crank back and forth
.

You bet stef  I’ll give a shot once the weather gets to nasty to ride the fixie to the station…wait, I only just got my load generator back from a repair job so there’ll be no back and forth action or I will be sending it right back.

Btw you ready to take down ML at amzof? There will be no swim decider…

when is it? 2 weeks? I better start training
