FIXAPALOOZA Fri (today) thru Sun

FIXAPALOOZA: Announcing the INAUGURAL Xantusia Fixapalooza, March 25-27 (Friday PM thru Sunday), or whatever part of that time period you’d like to be here for.

WHO’S COMING? As of this writing, probably 50 or 60 triathletes of all abilities throughout SoCal, plus another coupla dozen local denizens for our Saturday nite party.

WHAT IT IS? The point of the Fixapalooza is to help you knuckleheads that don’t know how to work on your bikes get them tuned and fixed and into riding shape. We’ll have bike stands, tools, and expertise here, maybe some cables and handlebar tape and stuff. We’ll give you all the free advice you want, and the loan of tools and bike stands. Just realize that you get what you pay for.

BIKE FITTING: We won’t be offering fits per se, however we’ll have three Computrainer-equipped adjustable bike fit simulators set up, on which you’ll be able to determine what sort of position works best for you. Also, we WILL be putting on ONE bike fit seminar Saturday afternoon (5PM), to help you in your pursuit of your optimized position.

COST: Free (but, remember, you get what you pay for).

RSVP: If you’re already coming and we know you’re coming and you want to drag along a few more, fine. If we don’t know you’re coming and then you show up, that’s fine too, but we’d appreciate a heads-up if you’re able slowman@slowtwitch.com. By the way, if you’re coming bring your USAT card (there’s—yes—yet again another petition to sign).

WHERE: At Xantusia, the property Mark Montgomery and Dan Empfield own in Valyermo, California, in the San Gabriel Mountains above and behind Los Angeles. It sits at 4200’ above sea level, with paved roads to 7900’ and single-track to 9400’, Endless Pool for swimming, views of the desert below, pine and fir forests in the mountains above.

It’s about an hour away from:

the intersection of the #101 and the #405
the intersection of the #15 and the #91

It’s about 90 minutes from the #5/#405 merge in El Toro/Laguna Hills, and about 2 hours away from the intersection of the #15 and the #78 in Escondido.

DIRECTIONS: There is a map and directions here:

MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE: If you want some good, undivided attention, get here Friday afternoon at 2PM or thereabouts. Starting Saturday, we’ll have bike maintenance breakouts scheduled, but we’re also going to ride during the same time frame, so some or most of those who’d help counsel you with your bike repairs, tune-ups, change-outs, etc., might be out on the ride.

WHAT THIS IS AND IS NOT: It’s NOT a race, an event, a meeting, or anything even remotely “official.” This is a PARTY. It’s a GET-TOGETHER. Mark and I are THROWING it. It is not sponsored by any business, or part of any business. We’re not earning any money from it. If you crash on your bike while you’re riding up here, get eaten by a mountain lion, get hit by a car, don’t try to blame us (unless I personally run over you with my truck, and it can be demonstrated to be my fault). Whatever happens, it’s on you (or your heirs and executors), it’s not on us. If this doesn’t work for you, best to reconsider whether you should come.

COST: There is no entry fee, no insurance, no cops, no ride marshalls, no officials, no permits. Certain people may ride their bikes at certain times. You may join them, at your own risk. Or not. Up to you.

Will you be circulating the USAT petition for signatures too?

“Will you be circulating the USAT petition for signatures too?”

yeah, it’s buried in there. i do say in that blurb somewhere, “bring your USAT cards.”

Crap! I was going to try to make it this afternoon, but I feel like s*#@! So I hope to make it out there tomorrow.
I’ll be the ugly old guy with the red Softride.
