Five things I LOVE about Triathlon

  1. It is very social and most everyone is very nice and interesting
  2. Train and/or race one of the other two sports if you are sick of one
  3. Train and race with Pros and Newbies
  4. New gear all the time
  5. Discover fun cities and regions when traveling to events

Endorphins.

Weight management.

A sense of self worth.

Getting out in the countryside and exercising.

The great people you meet in triathlon worldwide that become friends .

(If I could have a number six it would be sexy bikes!)

  1. Volunteers, especially non-athlete volunteers.

  2. Hot chicks.

  3. Passing the fishies on the bike.

  4. Passing the bikers on the run.

  5. Post race food.

  1. The people…fellow athletes, volunteers at races, etc. There is such a sense of camaraderie at races…there is always somebody to cheer you on or encourage you in some way.

  2. The fact that I have three sports to choose from…I can always figure out a way to get in a workout and make myself better in at least one discipline.

  3. The stuff…I gotta admit, I’m a gear junkie. Sometimes all I need is a new pair of goggles to get my fix, sometimes its a new bike.

  4. Lots of races to choose from, and the variety…sprint, Oly, HIM, IM…its all good.

  5. The lifestyle…triathlon makes me have a focus and goals with which to orient my training, and also to impose some discipline on my working out.

Thanks for putting a positive spin on this idea Herbert.

  1. The people: never have I met so many out going and kind people willing to go the extra mile for a stranger. It really is a beautiful community that we have. So friendly.

  2. The sports: three to choose from as well as weights and stretching… get bored with one… switch around

  3. The races: great locations and great chances to meet (live) the great people that meet (online) here.

  4. Allows me to get my “fix”

  5. I can eat like a pig and still look and feel great

(these may be repeats as i have yet to read the thread)

Herbert,

I'm not trying to hijack your post... but Is you on the triathlete mag of this month riding a litespeed ?

Regarding the five things:

- Keep myself with an objective

- Something really different from my job

- Reduces my stress level

- Meet a lot of new friends around the world

- It's funny !!!!

  2. Beating last year’s time.

  3. Training hard

  4. Saturday morning bricks

  5. Training for the next race.

1 - Triathlon: The concept captured my imagination since the first time I heard about it

2 - People: I’m not a people person, but I’ve met great people through triathlon

3 - Travelling: Thanks to triathlon I’ve seen places I would never see otherwise

4 - Athletes: Being able to bring out the best out of every athlete I coach

5 - People: Like I said, I’m not a people person, and…

  1. Like everyone else said … people. I had serious doubts about said “Triathlon Community” based on how we bicker and seemingly “rank the value” of fellow athletes here, on the internet. But at the races, the fellow triathletes and volunteers are just awesome.

  2. The Challenge … it’s just hard. Plain, simple, old fashioned hard. You simply can’t fake the funk. You can’t buy a good finishing time. You get what you deserve in triathlon.

  3. The Dedication – Compare the lifestyle of triathlon to other involved hobbies, and there is no comparison. You have to have discipline in how you plan, eat, sleep, recover, etc. The greater the investment, the greater the value.

  4. The Variety – you really do have the be pretty darn good at each event. Each one presents its own challenge and respect.

  5. The Emotion … whether it’s self-doubt, being in the groove, setting a PR, struggling, kicking butt, gaining confidence, runner’s high, or whatever … you always feel something in this sport/training. You rarely go through a workout or a race and have “no feeling” about what you are doing or just did. There’s too much invested to be apathetic about any of it.

Herbert … way to number your entries. “FIVE things I love about Triathlon”. 1-2-2-3-4. Awesome.

Well, maybe add a big A or U for available or unavailable!

I like your original list, especially the people and the travel. I’d also add those few minutes when you are in the water waiting for the start and looking back on shore at the crowd.

  • Unlike basketball or tennis, etc., you can train whenever you want, since each of the three are individual sports.

  • With the three, you seldom get bored or in a rut. If you do, just switch it up!

  • Healthy for the body.

  • Healthy for the mind.

  • Races provide an additional incentive to keep training.

freaking right on herbert.

love might be a bit much but lots to enjoy:

-remembering what and where i came from to get to
the line

-being able to smile when i hit the line

-hitting the line quicker than younger guys

-being around a bunch of other crazy people

-getting lots of others addicted to this animal
.

Five things I LOVE about Triathlon:

  1. People who call other people “posers” are only on the forums and not at the races

  2. The swim

  3. The bike

  4. The run

  5. How soundly I sleep afterwards

Five things I LOVE about Triathlons…

1 - The fact it’s just another hobby …

2 - Great way to keep fit and in shape for an old guy like me

3 - IMprove on my personal ‘focus’

4 - Seeing someone on the roadside cheering me on and acknowledging them with a high-5 or a hand slap with a ‘thank you’

5 - When the voices in my head scream in unison “WTF were you thinking???” when you registered for this race?
