Without Laidlow’s swim incident, more of your predictions could have been correct. But, it screwed RVB usual waiting game, he couldn’t just hide and find out; the bike got pushed hard in that first chase group, massively helping the Norwegians: Sam took them to the front while making it impossible for any other train of strong riders to catch up. Not that many would have been able to change the podium, but the rest of the top 10 definitely yes.
