I’m setting up my new frameset.
In matching coordinates / contact points from old frameset, is there a preferred way to achieve the same stack (ie, steertube spacers vs aerobar spacers vs stem rise) ?
My assumption is I want the stem as low on the steertube as possible, ideally with a no-rise stem & no aerobar spacers, but I’m not sure.
Thanks.
aerobar spacers are preferred usually. they are more aero than steerer tube spacers or stems.
there will be limits to how much you can do that unless you have one of the new aerobar setups where the extension go up with the elbow pads.
They are VukaAeros with chicane extensions, so I don’t know that I could go more than a few mm (I think riser options are 4mm or 8mm) without messing with the wrist angle.
Thanks for the tip.
When I have needed to have some flexibility with finalizing a set up an adjustable stem is very handy. You can generally get somewhere around 40 degrees of total adjustment. They are made by several manufacturers and are reasonable in cost albeit a bit heavy. As for spacers or risers, I think you are astute about the wrist angle but I don’t like stem spacers either. What is better is to determine your final position and get a stem with the rise that accomodates your needs. This will yield an overall stiffer and stronger front end.
