Fiscal Conservatism is DEAD DED

There is one thing Trump, Republicans and Democrats unanimously agree on. Spending money and raising debt.

Unless you support Rand Paul. As much as people bitched about his latest No vote, the guy is consistent you want to spend money, how you gonna pay for it.

Go back to 1968 and take a look at the agreement between Nixon and Rockefeller. One could argue that Financial conservatism died right then and there.

What about Clinton???

Umm, no he voted for the big tax cut.

No, suddenly they will be very concerned about the debt once a democrat is president. Can’t let a democrat have a good economy.

Wanting to spend less, and thinking we are overtaxed, are not mutually exclusive.

If not then, it was dead in 1981.

I’ve posted here several times an analysis, from a conservative-libertarian source (Cato), that examined the debt and deficit implications of then-candidates Trump and Clinton. It was plainly evident that Clinton’s spending was mostly offset by some spending cuts and largely tax increases on the wealthy, whereas Trump’s plan exploded both by increasing spending, huge tax cuts that never pay for themselves, and zero effort to curb entitlement spending.

So this is what you get. Right on course. Predictable and predicted. But keep telling us how there was no choice for conservatives but to support Trump against Hillary and next year against GOP primary challenges. We’re all ears.

  1. dems murder babies
  2. dems want to steal your guns

That works for a significant portion of the voting bloc.

Neither Dems nor Repubs are fiscally conservative. They posture. They pose. But they aren’t. Both parties offend me when it comes to spending.

That’s a cynical and fatalistic view, and it wasn’t always true. It doesn’t have to be true tomorrow, either. It just takes people demanding that of candidates when they vote and consider reelection.

Will you be voting for a candidate that makes debt and deficit reduction a priority, or for one who’s not even paid lip service to it while taking them both in the wrong direction?

You really can’t complain if you’re rewarding them with your vote.

Bipartisanship at it’s finest. How else can each side get elected? Mulvaney was silenced in his lead to cut spending, Trump caved in order to get re-elected.

there is no incentive for politicians to be fiscally conservative. Voters care about other things related to the economy much more than a debt they aren’t going to have to pay.

I’m no economist but the US also seems to have a unique position in the world in that it can have a high deficit and debt to GDP without having to increase interest rates to borrow. The world knows we are good for the debt.

I doubt Trump caved to anything. His entire MO is to rack up debt and leave people hanging. The only things he wants to cut spending on is to his opponents.

Who the fuck would that be??? It damn sure ain’t any of the current Repubs or Dems.

He actually did cave to Pelosi. He and his boy, Mulvaney, were out for less budget monies to those departments not identified as DHS and DOD. He put the Munchkin in the lead to get the deal with monies put back in.

There are no fiscal conservative votes to be had out there in the heartland. Just keep them stoked with socialist anxiety and pro choice contempt, all the while keeping the farmers afloat with cash handouts.

The irony is these anti-socialists are actually supporting socialist spending.

Go figure!

So we agree, we can’t blame Clinton? Perhaps the first time he wasn’t guilty of something.
