First x-country ski race - what a blast

Did my first ever x-country ski race this past weekend. Was really a blast and I actually won my AG, which is something I never have a hope of doing in local running races. The guy that came second in my AG is a running stud that usually beats me by about ten minutes in 10 kms running races. It was great to hand some of these runners their asses for once.

It was a local low key event so I won’t be challenging Dev Paul or any of you other serious ski racers any time soon, but I certainly intend to do more x-country ski races in the future. I’ve been recreational x-country skiing for many years, both classic and skate, but had never done a race before.

Time to update my decade old skate skis and boots before I race again however.

Highly recommended as a cross training activity for those of you that live in northern climates. Sure beats winter running IMO.

Congrats! I need to get closer to ski areas so I can get out my x-country skis. For some strange reason, Las Vegas doesn’t have that much snow…

Cerveloguy…welcome to the enlightened side…

Hak…you can rollerski during the week in Vegas and then head up to the mountains for some snow stuff!

Cool! Welcome to the club! An age group win - you aren’t a sandbagger are you?

Awesome - but why not continue to kick their asses on retro gear? Unless your skis are dead or your boots packed in and sloppy, I say keep rollin’ with the old skool kit.

Welcome to the Nord Club!! As you will find, the early tri/running season will be alot more productive with the great base you’re developing with the Skiing. It is starting to be a good time of year to upgrade your equipment. The nordic centers are going to start the sales to get rid of this season’s gear. Hold on to your wallet!!

Look at Flagstaff, AZ. Lots of races out there. 3 1/2 hour drive from Vegas.

Jason,

I was just down their this weekend for a snowshoe race.

The catch with Flagstaff is that it’s no problem to race in Flagstaff. The challenge is training in Las Vegas. It starts to get expensive taking the family to Flaggstaff and using the race as my training time!
