First Tri! Awesome!

sprint: 660 swim, 30k bike, 4.5 mi run. 1:42, 55th overall out of 460, 5th in age group. not bad for a formerly obese (bmi 33, 40 inch waist) slob huh? and there were 3 international semi-elite guys in my age group from australia.

anyway, thanks for hearing my newbie report. hope you don’t mind me sharing. i’m hooked on tri’s. the people are so cool and the women are hot! may have to dump my unsupportive gf soon. thanks for all your good advice and sympathetic ears.

Dude, you got some serious problems. I hope for your GF’s sake she drops you. You seem like a complete ass.

“I hope for your GF’s sake she drops you”

Let’s see - he’s got an unsupportive girlfriend and you’re name calling and saying she should dump him. I’d say it’s time for both of them to move on. Obviously their lives are going in different directions and at least he realizes it.

Unless you happen to be the girlfriend, how would you know anything about this relationship.

Keep relationships in perspective - she’s only a girlfriend, so why try to put square pegs in round holes if there are these kind of differences already. It’s not like they’ve got umpteen years of marriage, two kids and a mortgage together.

"not bad for a formerly obese (bmi 33, 40 inch waist) slob huh? "

BTW, congrats on a tremedous first effort.

You are right I don’t know jack about their relationship. Although, based on the sum total of cyclisto’s posts I find him to be an ass. I wouldn’t wish his kind of personality on anyone I know.

If you remember on his post: He self proclaimed himself to be a 9.4 out of 10 on competitiveness gunning fot the top 10% of his AG. I am sure many of us have personal goals to achieve in racing, but who is egotistical enough to out and out say it, especially for their first race.

He decided to complain to the world about his GF problems. Keep in mind the unsupportive label is his. What kind of egotistical person spouts off in public about their private life. Sounds Tibbs like to me.

Also, his comment “the women are hot! may have to dump my unsupportive gf soon.” That is just arrogant and just an asshole thing to say.

That is a pretty good flame.

I would like to hear what cyclisto comes back with. This could be a start of great relationship like I have with jmg1848 or Larry California vs. iromclm.

hi erik,

nope. too old to fight anymore. plus, i’m too elated with my performance to fight anyway!

thanks cerveloguy for the backup. don’t know what’s wrong with being competitive. seems like 99% of all triathletes are type a, competitive types anyway. maybe sbr is in the 1%? that’s cool too. peace my friends.

have a great weekend everyone. i’m off to the message therapist, my quads are on fire!!

Way to go man! Now clue us in more on the obese story I need the inspiration.

I don’t think it is egotistical to say what your goals are. As a matter of fact, I have found that telling people what my goals are ahead of time helps motivate me. Even better when the response is “No way you will ever do that…” The more aggressive the goals, the better, as this has bee my first year in triathlons and I think too many people aim too low year after year.

I used to coach, and at the start of the season we would make everyone on the team stand up and say what their goals were, both for the season and beyond.

I guess the “wink” after he said that completely went over your head.

He’s gunning for top 10% I am looking for a good time. We are diffrent if not the same. Maybe he is me. You never know do you?

It didn’t go over my head; however, in light of his other thread regarding his GF, his comment must have gone over your head.

No, it didn’t hence the reason I didn’t get all fired up about someone elses love life.

"based on the sum total of cyclisto’s posts I find him to be an ass. "

Fair enough. I haven’t read any of the previous posts, or at least can’t remember them.

Thanks! How I miss rst…

I have always found the nomenclature strange. How exactly does one “sprint” for an hour and 42 minutes?

Anyway, great first effort. Welcome to the club!

Fleck

Congratulations!!

he’s probably still wearing a livestrong band too. LOL.

Goals give people things to shot for, lets say he did not post his goals and then when the going got tough he decided to quit. Only he would know. Now since he made the post and told people of his goals he feels oblliged to stand up to that task and not to quit and he did put out his max effort.

Dude, you did the KoOlina in Honolulu right? Did they finally post the right times? They started in waves but posted everyones times from when the elites started. Mines looked like I finished 176th though I started 17 min back. Anyway the international teams here for the ITU AG’s really dropped the MOP’s like me down in the standings. It was nice to have them here though. Good job on your finish - you’re a virgin no more.
