First-timer just bought a bike...what do I need?

I just bought my first bike. I’m expecting delivery next week or so and will get a professional fit once it’s in. I know I will need a helmet, pedals, and shoes. I also will need an emergency tire repair kit.

What else? Computer, clothes…

Not planning on any tri’s since I know the season is winding down and I most likely won’t be ready for anything anytime soon.

Will also be moving to Germany next June, so I’ll have to be ready to go early next year.

Any help and/or suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
MP

you will need fun, safe routes, to ride often!

A computer is nice. A nice pair of bike shorts or bibs would be great. Depending on where you live-a trainer might be nice. Enjoy your new bike !

So true - I’m in San Antonio, so I’ll be riding with one of the Tri-clubs. I think they have a few beginner-friendly routes.

Thermals for colder weather, windbreaker.
Camelback if you plan on taking very long rides.
Cycling undies that can fit under regular clothing are nice.
Pump and gauge.

Tire levers (3), water cages, insulated water bottles, tire tube (2), I don’t do patches, I just change and replace the tube right then. I have an under-the-seat bag for everything with multi-tool, tube, levers, co2 and that’s about it. You can get a frame pump and a co2 or just one of them. co2 is good for close to home, but frame pump would be good for farther away. Maybe some glasses to help with those rays, gloves, a trainer for the Winter as someone mentioned, and that’s all I can think of right now.

Cycling undies??? under regular clothes. You were your bike shorts at work!
