I just got a new road bike off EBay. It will be the first time in 11 years that I’ve ridden anything without at least a 76 degree seat tube. Now I can particpate in all those fun road bike vs. tri-bike threads with an unbiased opinion Hey Cerveloguy, next time I join in for a group ride I won’t be on the mega-steep, little-wheeled tri-bike.
It is mostly assembled except that I don’t have a headset press so I figure I’ll let my LBS do that. My question for all you techie wrenches out there is related to the rear derailleur. The bike has a 9-speed 105 rd. I have a 9 speed ultegra rd that I was riding on for 2 seasons. Is it worth putting a 2 year old Ultegra on instead of a brand new 105?
I think that I need to adjust to “roadie riding” a bit more first. The group that I’ve done some rides with this past summer confuses me somewhat … they’ll just attack and hammer like maniacs for about a minute and then just as I’m back up to them they shut it down and cruise for awhile. I think I make things easy on them since I’m always willing to pull off the front until they throw a burst by me and then pull off the front again once I catch up I think that throwing in some of this type of riding will improve my overall cycling ability (at least my ability to change gears and hammer for a couple of minutes).
