Awesome pics!!! (okay, the first one was a little nasty)
Despite the fact they probably saved you a lot of extra discomfort, what on earth are you wearing arm warmers in September for???
Feel better,
Jason

In my defense, there was only a high of 60 with gusts of winds gusting at around 20 mph…
I’m still a bit of a baby when it comes to cold though. My left arm would probably hurt more too!
Sorry,
I keep forgetting that it’s only 100 degrees here (Vegas), and not everywhere.
And to think, I wear arm warmers in winter ewhen it gets all the way down into the seventies.
Feel better,
Jason
I got back from a ride yesterday and my 2 big toes were white and frozen. (I’m located in Southern Ontario) I soaked them in hot water until the feeling came back.
I am considering wearing my booties on my next ride. The summer we never had is gone…
Brad
That sucks man. I almost hit an errant dog earlier this summer. I was kind of wondering what would have happened had I hit the dog, I guess I know now. I hope you recover quickly.
I went down yesterday at 27mph. Guy behind me ran over my front wheel as I slid across the pavement at 25mph. I was shocked that I really did not get hurt all that bad. I have road rash very similar to yours, on my hip, even the left side. That was my only real injury, but boy it really stiffened up over night and is really sore today. I will spare you all the lovely pics.
Go back to where you crashed and see if you can find the owner of the dog. Then sue the hell out of him.
derek
The owner didn’t realize I had crashed but I went over as soon as I got up.
They helped me get cleaned up, offered me a ride and told me they’d compensate me for anything broken.
The only thing I’m making them pay for is a new helmet. I understand that stuff happens, but I don’t want to ruin someone based on a stupid mistake.
The dog wasn’t even his. He is dog-sitting for the week.
Looks familiar! I was off the bike for a month after. I don’t have a cool story though. It was just windy
I got a nice hematoma on my hip. I think the smile was from the percocet.
Glad it ultimately worked out alright.
But hey, the odds of crashing twice in quick succession are very low. So now go and give it hell!
Very typical. Glad that nothing is broken.
PS: That scratch on your hip will never fully go away. Mine itches sometimes for no apparent reason.
I had a dog run me off the road on a training ride in college…last time I ever let that happen. The dogs that will come up and nip at you, in my experience, are just dumb enough to stay there while you unclip. Have not had to do this for years as I ride an enclosed bike trail now, but last time it happened to me in living in Greenville, South Carolina I unclipped and kicked the dog so hard he went down like a load of bricks. That dog never so much as looked at me again when I passed his house…just sat there looking at me…it’s the only language those kind of dogs understand.
Glad you are okay…ugly rash!
Unfortunately, I am in the same boat right now, 2nd bike wreck last weekend and it sucked just as bad as the first.
One word for you: TEGADERM. That stuff is the best. Whoever discovered it ought to get a Nobel prize.
Good luck, Phil.
Off topic a bit but “easy ride” and 4 x 5 minutes aren’t usually two terms that go together. 4 x 5 minutes depending on the rest is a great VO2 workout or with less rest threshold. Just one more reason to do these workouts on a trainer. Better workout, safer etc. I know what I look like 4:40 into a 5 minute interval and it’s not exactly the best physical or mental state to keep myself upright out on the road and out of danger. Sometimes I almost fall over on the trainer ;>) Certainly not trying to imply you did anything wrong. Just the reality of eyeball popping workouts on the road. Something similar happened to me once.
Back on topic…that sucks and I hope everything heals up quickly.
Yeah, I don’t really know much about bike training. I was just riding really slow and wanted to get a tiny bit of quality in.
I am a runner turned biker. I was doing 4 x 5 minutes with 10 minutes in between. By “hard” I would say aerobic threshold pace.
I didn’t see the dog soon enough to think about much. He ran right for my front wheel – maybe trying to herd me? It was a young collie. It was hit the dog or swerve into the road and I wasn’t sure if any cars were coming behind me.
Tegaderm is great unless you are leaking fluid like crazy. After my crash, a few days later I was in the car for 26 hours - tegaderm on the whole time. After the car ride and a very long nap, I checked it, and it had accumulated quite a few cc’s. Talk about gross!

get your water bottle out and spray. Should work next time.
That sucks. Hope you’re filing a suit against the dog owner for injury and damages. People have got to have more accountability for their animals…
There are two kinds of cyclists
I recently crashed and I DID break the ribs you thought you broke. You seem to have got all the road rash however. I got away scott free from roadrash as it’s winter here (New Zealand) and I was wearing just about all my cylce clothing.
I got a new bike, so not ALL bad.
Good luck with your recovery.
That’s why you wrap it with a pads on the outside where
it leaks through…and yes I have plenty of experience with that.
