First Lake CdA Open Water Swim of the Season

I did my first open water swim of the season in Lake Coeur d’Alene today. Water was a bit cool - my heart rate monitor said it was 62 degrees. I measured it with a thermometer at about 60. I had a bit of a problem at first with the cold water in my face making me a bit dizzy but after 10 minutes I was ok. This is the first hot weather we’ve had in May. There’s not much (as in damm near none) snow pack in the mountains so the water coming into the lake should be warmer than normal. The lake should warm up pretty quick if it stays warm.

ronco…keep us posted on the water temps in the next few weeks. Really does not matter now how cold it is going to be…but nice to know what we may be swimming in.

Hey thanks for the post. Have you heard anything about a change to the swim course in light of all the prior complaints?

If you download the Athletes Guide off the IMCDA website it shows the course. It is a triangle that starts off straight along the marina then veers right. Don’t know if that’s new or not as I haven’t done this one yet. Maybe someone who did it last year can chime in.

I grew up in Post Falls so I’m anxious to revisit the area.
