First Crash and 35 points

Well I did not think it would happen to me but just about 2 hours ago I wiped out going around a turn on my way to White Rock Lake in Dallas. The turn had some slick mud that was hard to see. I had a nice little wipe even though I was not going too fast. Nothing broken just road rash here and there and I am sure I will be bruised all over. The worst part I hit my chin on the concrete. No gash but it swelled up to about the size of a ping pong ball.

Now that I have a nice road rash on the chin. What can I do to make it go away? I have already iced the area and the swelling has gone done. Is there anything else I should do?

And yes I was wearing my helmet and I was really glad I was wearing gloves. The bike appears ok.

I did earn 35 epic points though

Be certain you get the affected area cleaned out well. That is very important. You can get fragments of foreign matter in their that will delay healing and cause an infection. Also, you may have a little dead tissue in there that could be gently scrubbed away.

Get it cleaned and then cover it while using some anti-biotic cream, be it neosporin or triple anti-biotic. If you want something more exotic use Carrington Gel, which is expensive but works incredibly well in accelerating wound healing and reduces scaring- a concern on a facial wound.

While some people disagree, my experience is that wounds heal faster if they are covered. It may also reduce scarring and certainly will prevent infection. It won;t stick to your pillow either. Yuck.

Well, as you have learned, there are two kinds of riders: The kind that have fallen, and the kind that will.

Good luck to you, hope you feel better!

make sure you apply liberal sunscreen to the area, glob it on. I made the mistake of riding around with some road rash on my face with just a little sunscreen and now have permanant white scars on the affected area.

Thanks and I did learn some good lessons. I am on my way to the store right now.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Wet healing is the way to go, cover it up and you can continue to ride while healing, with scars on knees it is quite hard to ride. I use Brave soldier (www.bravesoldier.com).
