First Bike

I just joined the tri team at my school and I don’t have a road bike. Right now I am trying to decide between the Felt F65 and the S32. The S32 is a tri bike. My question is, if I got the tri bike would I be able to train year round on it? Do you suggest I get the tri bike or the road bike?

Road bikes are much more versatile, handle and climb better. Put on a pair of shorter length road geometry aero bars and you’re all set. Tri bikes handle poorly in comparison and are not the recommended choice for a beginning cyclist. If you’re only going to get one bike, always get a road bike first.

IMO, always get a road bike first, learn how to ride by joining a roadie goup and going on group rides with them. If it turns out you really do like triathlon then later get a tri bike.

Cervelo Soloist Team might fit the bill for double duty (road/tri). 73 to 76 degree seat angle with reversible seat post.

Im looking for a bike in the range of 1000-1500

The Cervelo One and P2K seem to be in my price range. Any comments on those?

I just bought my wife a felt 65. Originally I looked at it for myself. Great looking bike. She did a century a couple weeks ago and got a lot of compliments. Living in WI we’re in the land of Trek. Everyone else owns a Giant. The felt 65 feels a little unique if that matters to you.

I ended up with the felt 50. It’s sold as a triple, but they threw on a double FSA carbon for me (swapped from the felt 45 maybe?), and gave me a 9speed DA rear D for nothing. I liked the 50 for the full ultegra.

The bike tracks very steadily. It’s not twitchy at all perhaps because of the traditional top tube? The wheel set on the 50 is the shimano 540. Relatively deep wheels with 16 count spokes look pretty cool, but they seem a bit heavy. The carbon seat stay is a little gimmicky I think.

All in all though I love riding it. I pretty much put away the MTB, and I will never again ride the 1980s steel Fuji club. Both of these bikes is within your 1000-1500 range.
