i’m purchasing a 2005 tequilo-for 1800, life time tune ups and fitting included. The shop is the best in the area also. My question is do I need to be concerned with QR’s ONLY 3 yr. warranty on the frame. I plan on keeping this bike for quite a while. Also does anyone believe I’ll be confortable enough for iron distance on this with possibly an upgraded seat/ post? or is this even necessary. thanks for all of your help, Fran
you don’t need to be concerned with the 3yr warranty. you don’t need to upgrade seat post. you might need to upgrade seat. after you’re fitted on the bike ride it on the trainer in the shop for 10min with bike shorts, etc. if it’s not comfortable, try different saddles on the bike. on the trainer. in the shop. good options:
selle san marco triathgel azoto
fizik arione tri
the new one from profile design
the tri specific selle italia SLR
the koobi split rail (don’t remember the name)
You’ll do fine on this bike for any distance tri. With the carbon seatstays you likely won’t need to change your seatpost out for a carbon one. I still ride an aluminum seatpost on my Tiphoon and don’t have a problem with comfort. And don’t worry about the warranty. Treat your bike like any valuable and you won’t have a problem. I believe in the QR product, owned a Tequilo and now a Tiphoon and never experienced a single problem and I don’t think you will either. Do the proper maintenance and this bike should last you many years. And by the way, I think you are making a wise choice in choosing the Tequilo. Good luck with the bike.
My bike for my virgin year of tri (last year) was a new '03 Tequilo. It was an excellent bike. It is certainly more than an entry level bike as it has many shades of much more expensive bikes. Get a proper fit and consider changing saddles like Slowman said, but other than that, you won’t need anything else. I regret to say that I sold the bike as I was brainwashed by the canucks on the forum and now own a Cervelo : )
