FINA Worlds 200 fly finals 31 July 2025

Semis for 200 Fly are done at FINA Worlds in Singapore (I’ll post times a bit later as FINA has not updated their website). I thought it makes more sense to have topics focused on the event be discussed even though some of the swimmers are the same. Summer McIntosh going for a third gold (she has 400IM and 800 free head to head with Ledecky after this). I just wateched her win her semifinal

For reference all time top 5

Looks like Summer McIntosh did a PB and went 2.01.99, 18 hundredths off the world record, gold number three.

I wonder how much she will have in the tank for Sunday’s 800 free after the 400IM rounds and finals. Katy Ledecky was through the 800m mark in the 1500 free in 8:09 which actually slots into the 13th fastest all time WHILE DOING A 1500. Summer’s best is 8:05.07 at Cdn trialsis a second off Katy’s recent world record in Fort Lauderdale, so I thought Summer may keep the powder dry in the 200 fly and 400IM to save everything for the 800 free. But today is Thu, not Sunday and she said she really wants the 200 fly world record.

Question for those in the know, I assume the 2008 record was in a rubberized suit?

Thing about the womens suit records, hardly any advantage to what they wear now. In fact I bet the suits today are at least on par with those old ones if not better. Compared to the mens it is night and day… I think that record has other problems, kind of that time with China and all…

Maybe take this swim stuff over to the worlds thread, not like it is being overwhelmed with posts… (-; I think a lot of lookie loos though, just not a lot of discussion besides a few of us hard core fans…

So I guess men had more of an advantage in the past with the full body suits (rubber or not). Women are almost on full body suits regardless.

This was a quote on where she thought she missed the world record. She says she took an extra breath in the last 15 m:

“It was so close and I know that last 15 metres I took an extra breath and I should’ve had my head down,” she said. "But, I mean, this is definitely going to fuel me for next season, so it leaves a little bit more fuel in the tank and really get closer and closer to that record.

“If there’s one world record that I wanted to break since the start of my career it’s this one.”

Summer took it down yesterday at Canadian trials.

SHe actually did it on the 5th, I think her first swim of the meet? And then an ok 400IM by her standards, would be a PB for any other swimmer in the world right now. Then she dropped out of the meet, saying she was picking up some illness. A lot of speculation that since if you just qualify for 1 event, you can swim them all later one, that she took the new WR and is moving on. Must be kind of tough that even in a world class meet there is no one near her in those two events, so swimming Canadian nationals must be very lack luster for her as far as competition goes..

Glad she finally got that record, know it was the one she has been aiming for, and nice to get another super suit(and perhaps questionable) record off the books..
