Fina world championships

Just finished watching the rerun of the men’s 800m free. If Lance isn’t the worlds greatest endurance athlete, then Grant Hackett is. He crushed the WR. The announcers said he is undefeated over the past NINE years. That’s just nuts!

the announcers were wrong…he got defeated by Ian Thorpe in Fukuoka.

Still not a bad record
.

maybe they meant undefeated over 1500m for the last 9 years, which seems about right. Actually I think he got defeated twice by Thorpedo over 800m…Fukuoka and maybe before at the national champs, but I am not sure.

I know he just broke the record set by Ian Thorpe Too bad he sat out this year. It would have been a great race.

I have been keeping up with this on Eurosport.com but my wife found it and recorded it being televised on Fox sports Atlantic high up on the cable dial. My wife…bless her!

grant hackett is just insane. All his 100 meter splits are negative splits.

i dunno if thorpe has ‘it’ as much as he used to over the longer distances anymore.

I’m looking at the time differential of this original post, and your comeback with the correction. Not enough time to google it, you really are Cliff Claven…HA!!!

I was in Oz at this time…you know the country with swimming on national TV, prime time…the duel between the two was awesome, Thorpe staying in the wake for 700m, then putting a huge 6-beat kick to hammer Hackett…you cannot forget this…it was awesome.

oh, and who is Clff Claven?

There was a very popular show here about a dozen or so years back called" Cheers". It was about a bunch of people that sit in a bar all night after work, and basically do nothing. Imagine the Seinfeld cast in a bar. One of the charcters was a mailman named Cliff Claven. His talent was that no matter what subject came up in the bar, he would have an immediate response, and would know everything about that thing or subject. Funny thing about him was that he was almost always bullshitting, but did it so quickly, and with such an authoritive posture, that it just seemed plausible…You must watch some old reruns, you’ll get a kick out of it…
