My seeds for 35-39
800 - 2nd (senior seeded 19th overall)
400 IM - 1st (combined heats with 30-34 seeded 8th in combined grouping)
100 Fly - 14th
200 Fly - 1st
400 Free - 2nd
So the 800 Fr will be trying to win my heat, the IM will be trying to move up in my heat, as will 100 Fly. Try to win the 200 Fly and 400 Fr.
Over 500 entries in the 800… thank goodness for 10 lane heats.
200 back looks hard to win in 30-34 age group (1:55 entry time)
And yes I know who he is! Big roll up - no doubt the bars around there will get a workout.
Given that the current 200 lcm back WR is 1:51.9, this guy must be a former top backstroker like Peirsol or Krazelburg. Can you save us the laborious search thru the 191 pages and just tell us who it is???
Arkady Vyatchanin is doing master’s? Dang he must have figured he’d be pretty bored until World Cup season started up.
IMO, it would have made the most sense for him to switch to Australia because they’re pretty reasonable about fast-tracking citizenship for elite athletes and it would be a pleasant location with decent income opportunities, but he apparently wants to try to work something out with the USA or an EU country for family reasons. (Sadly USA probably isn’t going to happen based on the failure to get Vlad Morozov’s citizenship rush request before London in 2012)
Olympic bronze medalist in the 100 and 200 back in 08. Not Peirsol level but handy!
Acc to my Oct '08 Swimming World mag, this must be Arkady Vyatchanin. He went 1:54.9 at the '08 Oly so, if he entered 1:55.xx in this meet, he is obv still in world class shape:)

You didn’t even have to look it up, did you??? Do you have all the medalists from all events in the last 7 or 8 Oly Games memorized??? Your swim knowledge is encyclopedic:)

Don’t insult her. Jill has the finalists memorized back to the 72 games, with splits. I think shes mot quite as encyclopedic on the commonwealth and Asian games though.
1972 is before my time. I just keep up with the gossip on Swim Vortex (Craig Lord’s new site after he couldn’t keep rights to the Swimnews web site) and SwimSwam.com.
I’m seeded pretty much midpack in everything, my goals are substantially more modest than yours! Just looking for post 40 PBs and hopefully to win at least one of my heats.

SWIMNEWS was a real magazine we got as kids (known as Swim Canada Magazine). They published the national age rankings in there. 25 deep most months and 50 deep twice yearly for SC/LC final ranks.
