In the news this morning: Bush is now on his fiftieth and this one is an open ended vacation; no return date. I guess he'll get back when he's ready. And this is from the "War" president in an war that he started. It's said that during WW2 the president was at his desk every day for the entire war.
The numbers are always brought up, but never in context. It sure sounds like Pres Bush must never be working at all, but I don’t think you can consider his “vacations” to be anything like when you take a vacation. We’re talking about a guy in charge of the most powerful country on Earth. I’m just a lowly Naval Officer, and I get called about once or twice a day when I’m on vacation to keep me updated on the goings on on the ship,…imagine the kinds of updates and calls the President must be getting, along with daily briefings and paperwork. It’s not like he’s stretched out on beach chair with a Corona and book.
The bush lovers love the bush vacations - their first lame excuse is going to be that it’s a working vacation and he’s not far away from work.
At least he’s setting a good example for the average American worker.
“How many of you get a month vacation? Well President Bush will be getting his month-long vacation. The White House is calling it a ‘working vacation.’ And I am thinking, well that pretty much describes the entire presidency, doesn’t it? … Bush says he is going to be very active, he plans to exercise every day. And he says he exercises every day because it clears his head. Hey, mission accomplished.” —David Letterman
He is trying to relate to the french.
Phew! At least he doesn’t spend all of his time “At work” posting on ST.

Hey I spend only one quarter of my time here. I have three other forums to waste time on, pal!
He’s in a cool place at his ranch house, reading a book, not on the beach.
I hate to destroy your impressions, but from this description he might work two hours in the morning and maybe two hours in the afternoon and that’s when he’s up to it. The ranch needs a lot of maintenance…

But at least he keeps up on the baseball games, the afternoon reading, and the private trails he is buiilding on his ranch.
I am not a big fan of the Bush administration but this is a stretch. He isnt actually on vacation. He has just moved the White House to Texas. Go find something real to whine about.
It’s said that during WW2 the president was at his desk every day for the entire war.
That’s completely false. FDR spent time regularly at Warm Springs in Georgia during WWII, and in fact died there in April 1945 of a massive brain hemorhage while sitting for a portrait. His house there was known as the “Little White House.”

I love posts like this. Let’s see, what has Bush done in the last two weeks?
Passed a highway bill.
Passed an energy bill.
Passed the CAFTA.
Passed a gun maker liablility bill.
Appointed an outstanding SC nominee.
Made recess appointment of Bolton.
Maybe I missed a few.
Please, please keep misunderestimating the guy. Oh, and most of all, keep losing elections.

Yep. Like I said, maybe the anti-Bush crowd should be happy that he’s only a part-timer. ![]()
Ouch. Sadly you have a point there. It doesn’t look like the highway bill and energy bill are much to brag about actually, but they are a lot better than they looked a year ago.
Bush is on vacation in August along with all of the Senate, Congress, and most of DC. Even the Democrats.
Don’t you mean “signed” instead of passed? Congress passes bills, the President signs them into place or vetos them. ![]()
It’s a dumb debate, he’s President, he’s busy, any more time spent on this is people wasting time and not being productive. Anyone else who posts to this debate will summarily be reported to their employer, if they employee themself then their wife will be contacted.
Let the commander in chief tell that to the boys in Iraq.
Enough fuel in this fire for everyone.

Bush was hosting the president of Colombia at his ranch today. I don’t think working with foreign leaders constitutes a “vacation.” Just because he isn’t in DC, doesn’t mean he isn’t working.
I said there was fuel for the fire for everyone in there…
It also said he has several empty days coming up and he’s said he spends most of the time riding, working on his ranch, and reading books.
…the 319th day that Bush has spent, entirely or partially, in Crawford — nearly 20 percent of his presidency to date, … Weekends and holidays at Camp David or at his parents’ compound in Kennebunkport, Maine, bump up the proportion of Bush’s time away from Washington even further.
…his disinclination to work nights or weekends.
