Curious if anybody has had bad experiences from eating too much fiber before or during a workout or race (without being too graphic…). It seems to be a generally accepted principal to eat low fiber/high carbs; but then I also notice folks mentioning eating things like Clif Bars, etc.; which have relatively high fiber content. I am a big fan of Clif Bars, but have avoided eating them before/during workouts and races due to the fiber content. I’m particularly interested in the effects in longer races such as Half IM or IM.
I had a bad experience with high fiber cereals taken on the day before a race (HIM). On race day I was able to hold “it” just to finish-line but had to went straight to the bathroom. If the race was a Km longer, I would eventually have to stop.
Also, fiber reduces the absorption of carbs when taken at the same time. You should just avoid high fiber foods on the day before. After the race is done, eat all you want. Is not a big deal anymore.
