I have been trying to make a choice between a new Felt S32 Bike or a set of Hed Racing Wheels like the Alps of Hed 60’s. Due to budget constraints right now I can only afford one option. My wife and I share one carbon road bike and I use it for Training and short course triathlons and she uses it as well for training and Road Race Time Trials and we just attatch clip ons and we have Mavic Ksyrium wheels. After reading some of the recent posts it looks like getting a set of “Racing wheels” might not save a huge amount of time during our events. Would a "dedicated TT or Tri Bike like the Felt S32 benefit our needs better? Need all the help we can get on this one. Thanks.
I love my S32. Given, it’s the only tri bike I’ve qwned, but it works great for me.
No brainer - buy a 2nd bike since there are 2 of you - then you can ride together.
Race wheels may save you up to 1-2 minutes/hour - maybe. Its a very marginal difference for most of us.
A tri bike may allow you to ride steeper - may allow you to run better off the bike - may allow you to ride lower in front - all of these things are more important in my opinion than wheels - but the bottom line is that you need 2 bikes!!!

I’d definitely get my own ride if it was up to me…so many advantages to having your own bike.
I’ve with the others on this forum. This is a no brainer. Get the second bike and ride with your sig other. The wheels will save a little time but you’ll be able to share biking all year. Have fun.
i’m in favor of a secon d bike, but would consider getting a road bike actually, and saving up to buy a tri/TT bike next year.
if you can only have one bike–make it a road bike. your training will benefit so much more this way. get a second pair of clip ons and you’re good to go.
honestly, you need your own road bike. think about it…this makes the most sense.
you can get a felt road bike for a grand, or perhaps a cervelo for around the same price. and the felt road bikes look pretty good in comparison to the S32 (quality wise I’m saying).
you also need to consider if you ride hills…if so, then for God’s sakes get a road bike.
Get the FELT S32 and share it just like you do with the carbon road-bike!
Seriously though, getting the second bike is the best option, in my view.
I would get another bike…cant say that I have ever liked the quality of Felt though…that is of the S32 as well as the WAY over priced and out dated B2 a buddy got this year (and regrets ever minute of re-raising his seat as slippage is a feature on that bike). He paid for 404’s, Carbon X and Dura Ace 10…on what I think is a crappy frame.
Dude, buy a second bike. I have a felt s32, that i’ve had for a couple of years and I love it. Plus riding with you sig. other is going to make training more fun, a family affair, and when you decide to race your first IM you will get a lot less slack if she can train with you. Also think of all the biking vacations that can be taken together as opposed to one riding and one driving in a car behind:)
Well, since this a 100% vote and it makes since I think I will be getting the 2nd bike. I was kind of lusting after it bit anyway. Thanks for all of the excellent feedback and tips. This is why I like this forum. My wife will be happy too. Thanks again.
second bike… buying bikes gets addictive though, be careful
