Felt DA questions

how much does the frame+fork weight??

is the stem adjustable below horizontal?? how much?? I’ve looked at the geometry specs and I don’t think I would be able to replicate my position if it isn’t

Just looking at it I wouldn’t think you’d be able to get the stem below horizontal as the “bayonet” part of the fork would get in the way…you could always just get a B2 which is the same without the Bayonet.

The current stem does not drop below horizontal. The front end can get quite low however. And as others have mentioned, there is the option of a standard 1" steerer tube, so if you had a unique position, like jens and his 170mm stem, or Bjorn’s radically low base bars, it is possible.

Why does everybody want to spend so much money on bikes such as this. Why spend 5 or 6 thousand on something when you can get all carbon for 2,000-3,000 via kuota, quintana, even cervelo’s new p2 is 3,000. Do some people just have an abundant supply of money to hand out or do they think that spending that much will put them in first place. I mean let’s look at it…any of the 3 bikes I just mentioned would kick the s*** out of a DA with the right legs!!!

the felt isn’t actually all that pricey if you take away the bayonet fork and the crazy $$$ build kit. A DA is in the same range as the P3C, Kuotas, QR Lucero etc. It’s when you add Zipp wheels, Zipp bars, full DA (especially cranks and brakes) and all those goodies on that you end up with the $5-6K price figure…

“Do some people just have an abundant supply of money”

Thankfully, yes.

What does your statement have to do with the original question? And how is any bike going to “kick the s***” out of another bike? If the guy wants a Felt DA he has hopefully done some research on the cost and decided he can afford it. We have customers who order custom bikes with every high end part you could imagine so they can go out with there buddies for a Sat morning ride. In their case I have to disagree with Lance, it IS about the bike.

Why would anyone buy a pair of Lucky jeans when they can walk into Walmart and buy a pair of Wranglers? Wrangler can kick the s*** out of Lucky jeans!

Well, if it is about the bike then how did Stadler win Kona on a Kalibur? Why didn’t he just go buy an overpriced DA? It is about the bike. But, it is more about the legs. His legs produced his record time at Kona.

why are you so bitter about this? if someone wants to get a nice bike then so be it. Since when did practicality become such an all-important issue.

Also, who are you to say that the DA is overpriced? It’s not even the most expensive bike in its category. from all appearances, the DA appears to be a solid aerodynamic, time trial bike with good geometry.

Stadler rode a Kuota because they sponsor him to. It’s as simple as that.

If i were to blow big bucks on a frame, it would certainly be on an aerodynamic efficient frame, not a box section frame like a Kuota. And the Felt DA is as good a reason as any.

We don’t know anything about the OP so who’s to say the DA is too much bike for him?

Aren’t you sporting a Litespeed Blade?

All I am saying if you have the money, spend it on what you want. But, I am saying you can get results from legs more than bikes! Whatever you called the box Kuota or whatever, grabbed the record at Kona. Surely, you are not one of those people that ride a 6,000 dollar bike and do your miles in 3.5 minutes are you?

It’s funny, ALVARO posted the original question and in his right mind, hasn’t replied to any of these posts.

My hat is off to the guy, I wouldn’t either…thanks RAMMERJAMMER5

Thanks, I had to learn all this the hard way…now I am trying to condition my legs!

Yes…the question is about carbon…not ti…isn’t it…

I just happen to have a life outside slowtwitch, I was outside riding my bike and came back to find all this posts.

RAMMERJAMMER5, I’ve won races riding an old c’dale and a kuota, I have gone sub-9 in an IM on a P2C. I know exactly what percentage of my results come from my legs, or from my equipment choices.

I’m not going to discuss my finantial status with you, I just love bikes

post a position pic…sounds very aggressive and apparently you’ve been able to produce some FANTASTIC results with it. I doubt you’re gaining much on the p2c with the da. I bet it is faster but could you spend money elsewhere? Better aero helmet? zipps, srm, dugasts?

.

sorry about the bif fat pic, don’t know how to make it smaller.

I’m not planning on buying a DA yet, not until jens or AC field test it ;), but I would surely consider it if they found it faster than the P2/P3

the pic is from last year, I’m currently using a lower (horizontal) stem, I had to substitute the stock headset cap for a flat one to get as low as i wanted,

I already have srm, zipps, 2 aero helmets and michelin clinchers, which are faster than dugasts
