Felt DA owners - Creaking Noise from bottom bracket

I have a Felt DA with Dura Ace about 800 miles. Around 300 miles it developed a creaking noise that would come go with medium pedal effort. I had the BB serviced - cleaned, lubed threads, re torqued. Shop said that should fix it but today I rode about 40 miles and with in 5 miles the creak was back. This time it is was louder. I can stand next to the bike with brakes on and just step on the pedal and make the creaking noise with not rotation - just pressure.

I took the pedals off and can repeat this with just pushing down on the crank. So it is definitely in the BB. Also check skewers too.

Is it possible that the actual BB threaded insert in the frame has areas of de-lamination that are causing this creaking noise? This is progressively getting worse so it is typical of some movement.

Any advice is welcome. The noise drives me C R A Z Y!

I have same creak machine…add this to the list of noises and creaks mine has…sounds like a an old rocking chair! One way to fix it…sell it or use earplugs.

Sometimes the noise sounds like the bottom bracket but it is actually coming from the wheel. seatposts, seatclamps, stems, pedals. They can all sound like a BB creak.

Try to removed the front wheel, applied a little Phil Woods water proof grease on both sides of each fork drop out, put the wheel back into the fork and see if that fixes the creak.

Exactly - re Old Rocking Chair. Did you try to do anything about this with the shop assuming you bought your DA new. My bike had no noise what so ever at first. I think the issue points to flexing at the BB area - frame to BB insert.

How many miles on your bike and year?

If you have another set of pedals trade them out and go for a ride. Fixed my squeak problem after months of BB chasing (and being sure the sound was coming from the BB)

Yes I did clean and adjust the skewers but I can try lube too tomorrow. The sound does sound like it is the BB though.

I did have the creak in my BB at one point but my mechanic did something to remedy it…or perhaps it is just overshadowed by the constant creaking and cracking emanating from the wonderful Bayonet stem assembly. I gave up on it a while back…I am just lucky my stem doesn’t tilt to the left or my seatpost clamp has not broken yet or …

Yes I think I eliminated the pedals as a source because I removed them and could reproduce the noise by stepping on the crank arms with brakes applied.

hasn’t there been a Felt bb / crank issue for years ??

I did some background check before I bought but all I could find was Bayonet noise and assembly issues. Mine has been perfect and I think the shop assembled it correctly. Any mention of noise in my research seemed to be directed to the Bayonet assembly.

Can you be more specific?

If you still think it is the BB, here are some suggestions

Loose Ball-Bearing BBsLoosen the lock ring on bottom bracket with lock ring tool.
With pin spanner, turn the adjustable cup clockwise until there’s no more play, but no binding in the bearings. Tighten lock ring down to set the adjustment in place.
If there’s still creaking, replace the bearings and inspect for pits on the race. (You need a new BB if you find any.)
Cartridge BBsRemove with sealed cartridge bottom bracket tool.
Regrease threads on frame and BB.
For stubborn cartridge bottom bracket squeaks, use Teflon tape on the threads.
Reinstall, putting a drop of Green Loctite on the threads; www.loctiteproducts.com.
For titanium frames, use Finish Line Ti Prep on the threads; www.finishlineusa.com.
