I know this has been done before, but I was wondering if anyone has any new ideas. I’ve been riding my 2012 B16 for almost two years now, and I still don’t like the stock aerobar pads. They’re fine in winter, but as soon as summer comes around, sweat, sunscreen and the super-slippery rubber pads become a very nasty combination. I should point out that when I say summer, that means 35C+ and ridiculous humidity!
I don’t want the Ceegees - they’re just too thick for me, and I don’t need that level of comfort: it’s a race after all. Does anybody know of any other pads that are available, or of any other pad plates that fit with the same mounting holes? Or failing that, is anyone using the Vuka Alumina Clip with the extensions mounted under the base bars? Or any good suggestions about making home-made pads?
I did contact Felt directly about this issue, but interestingly enough they claimed to have never heard any complaints about this. Interesting in that its been mentioned on this and many other forums many times as far as I can see.
i have the zipp vuka alumina clip ons and have no problems at all. the pads are more than comfortable and there is no slipping like with the stock felt pads
I’m using the slippery pads - oh so slippery! I wasn’t aware that there are any newer textured pads - are they supplied on the new B16?
Are you using the Vuka with the extensions mounted under the base bar? Is it possible to get a low position with the pads mounted touching the base bar and quite narrow?
With the Vision pads, do you mean the whole pad and plate or only the actual pad? Is there one specific Vision pad which fits well?
You can cut up an old mouse pad and use velcro to attach it. Glue an extra layer if you want a little more padding.
This is actually a great idea. A friend of mine did it (and attached strong adhesive Velcro to it). It looked a tiny bit funny due to the pad design he started with, but it felt pretty nice.
I’m leaning towards the mouse pad idea as well. It’s certainly cheaper than buying a new set of aerobar clips, and if it doesn’t work well I’ll just need to buy a new mouse mat!
