Felt B14 vs. BMC TM02

If they were to both fit, which way would you lean?

Probably the felt, but what year frames?

2015 Felt vs. 2014 BMC

I have the TM02 and love it, but both are great bikes. Both fast so get the bike that feels faster and/or get the better deal on.

Thanks for the feedback Nigel. Currently looking at 2250 for the BMC vs. 1800 for the Felt…

I’d go for the felt then- if the build kits are close. I’ve set some blistering times with my TM02, but the felt is close in speed and the extra $450 is probably better spent on a better cockpit or covering part of the cost of race wheels.

But as always, get the bike that puts the largest smile on your face. Life is too short to ride a bike you don’t love.

The money spent on the 105 cranks, DA shifters, and Shimano front brake are well worth it. Michrshift TT shifters are not very good. FSA cranks will not give you the shifting quality that the new 11sp FD is providing. It’s one of the great features of shimano 11. You’ll want to replace the brake pads on the Felt right away too. It’s a good bike, but there is a reason it’s so much less.

So I say get the BMC, or get the felt but upgrade the shifters, crank and brake shoes/pads.

EDIT: Are you talking 10sp 2014 BMC vs 11sp 2015 Felt? If so, I say get the felt and the upgrades.

Thanks for all the good posts. With the feedback, I went back and checked and it seems the TM02 at 2250 dollars is the 10 speed. Comparing the 11 speed Felt with Ultegra deraillers, FSA cranks, and microshift shifters at 1800 vs. a TM02 at 2500 with 11 speed 105 deraillers, crankset, and dura ace shifters.

The felt is probably a better bike per dollar but I think the bmc is a much more beautiful bike. I’d honestly get the felt and some nice used hoops or summin but I think the bmc is cooler so idk lol whatever your priorities are. I might get a cooler bike if I could afford it. Do you like the shifters and everything on the felt? Good bars etc if you are going to replace stuff take that into consideration. I’d probably like the bmc more for no good reason at all

I just ordered my Felt B14 after seeing one in person. It is drop dead gorgeous!!! The red and black paint scheme looks amazing in person. I’d personally go with the B14 and get a new crank and some good tires or put the money towards some race wheels/aero helmet.

Go with the Felt and then like other have said treat yourself to some upgrades (Cranks, Wheels, etc). The Felt is a good platform to upgrade over time to make it a fast bike for years to come. The BMC is certainly a nice bike and it’s spec’d beautifully but at 10sp it’s already out of date.

If you love the BMC though then go for it but I’d lean Felt.

Again, thanks for the feedback…good information.

The decission will come down to viewing both in person and fit, which I expect will be this weekend.

A couple of followup thoughts:

1.- What is a good crank option for the Felt as an upgrade? My understanding is that Shimano would only work with adapters…and I haven’t heard great things about using adapters. The shifters I believe can be upgraded to Dura Ace for a little under 100, so I’m not that concerned. I’m just trying to gauge what a crank upgrade might cost.

2.- Within BMC, looking at 5700 vs. 5800…is the shifting quality a significant improvement?

Knowing your geometry is the most important thing. Nothing beats a good feeling bike beneath you when it comes to staying motivated to train and ride regularly.

    • When it comes to cranks be sure whatever you replace it with it’s BB30. Don’t go the conversion rout of getting a 24mm spindle to a BB30 bike, it defeats the purpose of BB30. From what I know there are a few options for BB30 30mm spindle. I went with Rotor 3DF/3D+ myself. The other options are SRAM, Cannondale, Vision and S-Works I believe. The most cost effective option is a better FSA crank in the SL-K Light paired with Praxis Works Chainrings which are forged not CNC machined.
    • The newer 5800 stuff is just hitting the market now so there aren’t a whole lot of reviews on it yet. If the standard “trickle” down is employed as with other generations of Shimano products then the 6800 vs 6700 was an improvement thus 5800 vs 5700 should be similar.

Hope this helps …

Much appreciated…thanks!

Michrshift TT shifters are not very good.

Can you substantiate what you mean by “not very good”
As in what improvements do you get with a Shimano shifter?

Oooo daym baby what’s yo name girl i’m tryna make u my boo u lookin good shawty lemme leave wit u

Nice bike. Very shiny. Upgrade the cranks and get some race wheels and you will be flying.

Lovely Bike!

Perhaps got a picture with high clinchers under it?

Not sure about the 11speed version, but the 10 speed microshift shifters on my b16 are pretty good once you tighten them up a bit. The TRP brakes are pretty great too. The FSA crank can a hit or a miss for sure.

Now the basebar in the cockpit is heavy enough to kill a cow, so you may want to upgrade that if you subscribe to the weight weenie religion.
