Feedback on Windman Triathlon, Calif.?

Greetings. Anyone have any feedback on the Windman Triathlon held in April at the San Luis State Park near Los Banos, CA? I am thinking about visiting friends in the Merced area and thought about doing a local race. Or can someone recommend a better/alternative race in that general area?

Thanks,

Keith

I believe it was cancelled in 2003 and that was to be the first time, so it’s pretty much an unknown.

Is there a website for information?

Cathy,

Active has it listed @ http://active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1093118

and there is a home page @ http://www.windmanevents.com/.

Thanks for the info! Might have to check this one out.

Interesting to call it the Windman and then promise no wind - from active.com "Clean warm water, clean air and no traffic DEAL  -------------------------------------------------------------------NO Wind "

Don’t know why they canceled it in '03 but I have driven Pacheco Pass more times than I care to count and this is a very windy area - the reservior is a pretty popular windsurfing spot as a matter of fact. Don’t know much about it but sounds like a crap event - bad location unless you want to test out your equipment in 30 mph winds (leave your disc at home.)

During my windsurfing days I tried it there. In the summer it can be very windy. If it is foggy on the Monterey coast and hot inland, then major wind in store. Thirty knot gusts were common. They even have a buoy on the lake that flashes and has a siren to warn boaters if wind is coming up. Frankly the area is kinda ugly to me but it sure had great windsurfing in the lake and forebay (below the dam). As for the nearby town of Los Banos, if my high school spanish is correct, “Banos” mean bathroom…as in lavatory. Nuff said.
