Maybe they’re all just getting stoned while listening to shitty music.
Could very well be. Other recreational drugs are far more mainstream now. Also, getting drunk has become expensive.

Pharmaceuticals are generally the most popular first line of defense.
Just getting back to this thread. I do agree with you that for many people, pharmaceuticals are the first line of defense. However, when you look at our cohort, I think that can easily be the opposite. Because of the sport that got many of us here, drugs would generally be the last line of defense.
There’s no easy way to train and complete an IM. There is a lot of thought and preparation which goes into that decision. I would think most things in many of our lives are not spur of the moment, but thought out plans. I can see why people would think that the public in general may go the easy way route, to seem to translate that to our group seems to be a stretch. I would allow that I may be reading the sentiments completely wrong.
I have a childhood neighbor who got gastric bypass because she was obese, probably morbidly obese. She got so many comments about, just work hard, you’re taking the easy way out, etc. I know she struggled for years with diets and things, weight gain after child birth (she has 4 boys) and just the environment. I told her screw all the other people, if this makes you feel better and helps you reach your goals, it doesn’t matter what they think. I look at the shot the same way.
My comment about pharmaceuticals as a first choice was more on the provider side. Whether the patient or individual takes the suggestion doesn’t change the reality that medications are pushed early and often.
