I am a zevon fan from way back and this is one of my favourite all time songs…first discovered it in “The Colour of Money” with Paul Newman and Tom Cruise probably over 10 years ago now…taped the 45 seconds or so featured in the movie it from the VCR on to a cassette and the rest is they say is history - became a Zevon fan and bought much of his music.

My favourite opening line from Zevon (and perhaps of all time) is:

Well, I’m a Dylan fan, and I could post god-awful amounts of stuff…but a lot of it is lost without his delivery and the context of the rest of the song, but…

This is a good thread, but narrowing it down to first lines is more challenging and interesting. Mostly I’m posting this because I’ve been thinking about opening lines as leaving it open to any lyric is too hard; I wouldn’t even know where to start.
