This one is still my favorite picture. The guy who took recently won a national photo journalist competion with his coverage of Norseman xtreme triathlon
MY favorite triathlon picture? I have two… one of my 6-year old and one of my 8-year old.
My 8-year old:
I can see why you want the short cranks. Those are way too long. Good thing she is young. That setup would kill my knees.
It’s a picture that Thorlo used in it’s sock ads a long time ago.
It was of a guy sprinting to the finishline in a triathlon running with only socks on his feet( presumably Thorlos) the text at the bottom of the ad gave the back ground information that some how, at the bike to run transition, the man’s shoes had gone missing, so he decided to do the run leg in his socks. He was confidant that his well cushioned and durable( Thorlo’s big selling point) Thorlos would get him to the finisline in good shape.
I always laughed when I saw the ad, because it was always the big fear of mine that my running shoes would never show up at T2 for races where there was a sperate bike to run transition. I had heard and seen this happen to others.
That’s a tough question. There are so many compelling images from our sport. It is an intesely visual experience.
I remember one photo from Triathlete, shortly after they hired their new photo editor (who is excellent) that depicted an athlete sitting on the pavement wearing gold Iridium Oakley sunglasses pouring water over his head, obviously reeling from the effort of a finishing kick at an ITU event. The image had a lot to say about what goes into our sport for every athlete, regardless of ability level.
A couple of favorites come to mind…
The 1990 Ironman Hawaii poster with Dave Scott and Mark Allen, side-by-side, as they were ALLLLL day. Incredible race that still gives me chicken skin to think about.
The Football Sons aren’t into triathlon at all, but still love that poster of Lori Bowden, you know the one she did for the cover of Triathlete Magazine, wearing a paint skinsuit.
Can we say RACE FACE
.
I don’t want descriptions, I want *pictures. *Post links. If you have the pic saved on your comp send it to me. Paintttball@yahoo.com and I’ll upload it.

IronDad…did she borrow your shoes??? ![]()
My favorite picture is from the Norseman Extreme Tri. It’s the one of the lone swimmer in the fjord. Man, should I die and go to Heaven (or should I say Valhalla), I picture it to look like that swim.
One day I’ll get over there and join you Vikings for that race.
I’ll send the pic to paintball for posting.
Joel
This one says it all, courtesy xtri.com…last time I was there it was not a particularly pleasant sight. My 1999 finish was more like it, where I “looked” like sprinter coming through a 200 m in sub 21:

Be nice!!!
Poor girl… she inherited my big, wide/narrow feet (we both wear the exact same running shoe which is the only last that will fit us), but her mother is tall too so she might grow into them. Don’t laugh, though… they happen to function as pretty good fins in the pool!

I apologize in advance because I don’t have this photo on hand, but if you read Triathlete ot IT, you’ve probably seen it. It was used throughout the year in 2003 in an ad for, I think, the City of L.A. triathlon. A close up of two guys in wet-suits in the middle of a horde of triathletes just moments before the race begins, shaking hands as if to say, “Good luck, give 'em hell.” One of my recent favorites.
Got two… both taken from my mother who is working very hard to become a professional photographer. Both pics taken coming into T2.

The person who photographed the 2003 Santa Cruz triathlon did a FANTASTIC job. The entire image gallery is here: http://www.santacruzphotogallery.com/gallery/album10/tri3
Here’s four of my favorites:

Thanks for the link, I looked through all those.
I like slide 90 … go Hairy.
The seal? WTH? I’ve talked to scuba divers that say that seals (or sea lions) are very aggressive, and are more dangerous than sharks. Any truth to that?
I love the picture with the little girl on the curb. Who knows how long she’s watched hairless skinny men in colorful costumes run by.
I’m surprised by how many of the guys (not many, but still surprised) are athletically muscular. I don’t mean “lean”, I mean muscular. For some reason I was under the impression that if you were over 168 pounds, you might as well quit the sport.
Great photos.
I did that race…something happened to the coating on my goggles and I couldn’t really see very well on the swim. I followed one of those seals for a while, thinking it was the guy in front of me. Sigh. I am developing a very long list of “things not to do in a triathlon…”
