Favorite road helmet?

What’s the collective liking these days?

Wore a Prevail the past few years, loved it. Parted with it for different colors, thinking of trying something new.

Giros don’t do much for me, but the Aeon seems passable. Mixino looks good, never tried one on though, and it’s extra pricey.

Kasks look great, but the straps drive my ears nuts, and the retention mech doesn’t play nice with Oakleys. Looks like the Bontrager Velocis won’t be out for a while.

I wear some 10 year old piece of junk by Bell. 2 weeks ago I tried an Aeon on, and it was glorious. It was super light and crazy ventilation. I can’t see spending that kind of coin on a helmet, but if I did, my vote would be for an Aeon.

I agree on the “coin” aspect. Seems like in the past five years, the price of high end helmets has doubled, into the $200+ range, and that’s despite more options out there from foreign competitors that finally have US ASTM/CPSC approval.

I don’t think there’s one brand that I especially like. I have Bell, Giro, Uvex, and LAS. I look for features, like helmets with interior bug netting, dial/wheel adjustment, room for a light hat underneath, and lots of ventilation.

LG Course.
looks good
feels good
tons of airflow
and more aero than a giro attack

Wore a Prevail the past few years, loved it. Parted with it for different colors, thinking of trying something new.If you want to stick with S-Works gear, the Evade gets good tunnel numbers (close to the McLaren TT), while still ventilating well. BikeRadar blurb here: “saves 10 watts @ 40 kph vs. Prevail.”

Edit: MITaerobike’s post on TT vs. Evade; Rappstar’s post on McLaren vs. Evade.

Lazer helium. With magneto sunglasses and a clear plastic cover for rain, cold or aero helmet. Plus the easy tightening knob with built in blinking light.

And it’s light.

I wore LG Course the last 2 seasons and loved it. Functional, light and fits my odd shape head well. I switched to Giro Aeon this deal only because I got a killer deal.

LG Course. Light and comfortable. i even think it looks a bit less dorky than the others - maybe because it is a bit smaller.

Specialized Prevail or LG Extralight. The LG is a little warmer and can be found for about half the price.

Ever since I’ve switched to only aero road helmets, I’ve become really curious at just how slow some non-aero helmets must be. The Catlike Whisper that Movistar rides with looks like a disaster, and the Prevail with its huge sharp ledge in the back doesn’t look much better. Yes it’s just the eyeball test, but still…

I use a Catlike Whisper and Giro Air Attack.

Race with the Air Attack.

Lg course is pretty good. I like mine and I live in a hot climate.

If you are looking for a budget lid, I can highly recommend the Giro Monza. It is well ventilated and comfortable and can be found for sub $100. I also had a collision with an enthusiastic pitbull and hit the deck and the Giro did its job well.

A lot of discussion about aero this and that for obvious reasons but helmets on the road are worn for a purpose. I would also look at the gen helmets with dual density foam or other safety measures like the Scott, POC and others.

I bought a Atmos years ago and still use it as my primary training helmet. I also have my old Pneumo I use now and then in crappy weather, that I probably need to toss since it’s about 7 years old.

I have a cheap MTB helmet with pretty good vents that I use for riding my MTB with the car seat or trailer.

first mention of it so far, but I use the Kask Vertigo.
I’ve been using it for about a year & I love the retention system.
went to it from a Lazer Helium & am very happy.
it is heavier than the Aeon but I find it to be much more comfortable.

The POC Octal has received great reviews. Will probably be my next lid.

LG course would be my choice too, if only it was available in Australia (with the Australian certification).

Personally I love Bell helmets, tried the Sweep R but got a great deal on a Volt. Never looked back since. Although I will have to say that as a shallow narcissistic person moonlighting as a triathlete, aesthetics were a concern. But fit/ventilation/weight and stuff that normal people care about are excellent.

Evade works for me during training and races
.

+1 for the catlike I love the fit of that helmet.
