Favorite Coen Brothers Movie

I’ve been riding my trainer a lot and usually watch a movie for my longer rides. I love the Coen Brothers and have recently watched Fargo, Raising Arizona, and No Country for Old Men while riding. I’m a big fan of all three. I’ve seen them all before, but they are definitely worth revisiting again. Just wondering what is everyone’s favorite Coen Brother movie and what are some other Coen-like movies out there that I might not be aware of?

Not everyone will like all of them, but…

Blood Simple.

It was their first movie, I think. It just oozes tension. There are some really neat shots as well.

Hudsucker Proxy. “You know, for kids.”

O Brother, Where Art Thou. I wasn’t much of a fan of George Clooney until this movie.

The Big Lebowski. I didn’t like this one as much as the other Coen bros. films at first, but it grew on me.

There are others, but those are the first ones that spring to mind.

I was just driving to a party downtown last night. I drove past a bar that was closed and noticed that Raising Arizona was playing on the TV, with no one to watch it. Amazing movie.

I watched the Big Lebowski again recently (forgot that one in my post). I loved O Brother Where Art Thou, so will have to rewatch that one. Haven’t seen Blood Simple. What about Miller’s Crossing? I haven’t seen it or heard a lot about it.

They’re all good, but Miller’s Crossing has to be my favorite.

I like O Brother Where Art Thou?, Raising Arizona (“Son, you’ve got a panty on your head”) and Fargo the best.

Try The Ladykillers 2004 but you can’t do better than The Big Lebowski.

O Brother Where Art Thou is great from start to finish.

Fargo…eh.

lebowski and hudsucker for me
.

The Big Lebowski.

Fargo and Lebowski.

Blood Simple
Lebowski
Fargo
Barton Fink
Raising AZ
.

X2, the first movie I bought. The walk in the woods with Gabriel Byrne is powerful.

The Big Lebowski is very good.
O Bother is very good the first time you see it, and becomes excellent with each additional viewing.
Fargo is excellent.

But Raising Arizona is brilliant, a masterpiece. One of the great screenplays in film history. Not as good as The Royal Tennenbaums, but pretty damn special.

*There are multiple quotes in Raising Arizona (O Brother as well) that you can use in your daily life.

-When you are taking a group photo; “Look at the popper honey.”
-A friend shows you their home; “So this is where you and ___ chow down?”
-Friend complains about their pay; “govunment do take a bite out don’t she.”
-Somebody asks for hand sanitizer; “Everybody leaves microbes and shit.”
-Life got you down; “I tried to sit up and fly straight…”

No Country is by far their greatest achievement. frankly, i consider it a masterpiece in film.

Burn After Reading, funny and interesting.

No Country was a great movie. I can watch it over and over.

Same with O Brother. Didn’t like it at first but the more I see it, the better it is.

Fargo was ok.

Raising Arizona is awesome. It’s like 20 minutes before the opening credit(s). I still remember going to the theater as a kid to see that one. I can still watch it over and over again.

Big Lebowski on the other hand…hated it. Tried to watch it numerous times, fell asleep each and every time.

No Country was also my favorite. I have watched that movie more than any other movie. My favorite scene is the quarter scene with the old man. That is a perfect scene.

Raising Arizona
O Brother Where Art Thou?
Miller’s Crossing
Fargo

Love those guys. O Brother Where Art Thou and Fargo are my two favorites.
