Just curious about chain options. I’m riding SRAM Red 10 speed and have always ridden SRAM chains. I’m about to get a new one and thought I’d get some input.
I am leaning towards sticking with a 1091R, but really want to use a reusable master link. Does anyone run a KMC Missing Link on SRAM 1091?
Thanks.
Wippermann Quick Connex. No Tools.
I run it on Shimano & KMC 10 speed Chains. Flawless.

yup!
X3 on the Wipperman Connex Link

Sram master links are reusable?
Sram master links are reusable?b
Not technically, but I’ve reused them over and over. I’d be curious if anyone has seen a failure from reusing the SRAM links.

X4 on this, The reusable connex link makes taking the chain off\on a snap, which means cleaning the chain in a varsol tank and re-lube is easy, which means a longer lasting chain.
KMC chain X 5. I have themm on my tri bike, road bike and my wifes road bike. I used to use Shimano chains with the old school pin. I cleaned them after every ride BUT I think the removable link lets me clean the chain better. I get over 2 K on a chain now and the components wear less also. I attribute this to better cleaning that is possible with the removable link.
What sort of mileage and wear have you seen on chains? I’m about to change a very stretched chain which has 1900 miles on it if the prior owner was accurate in his assessment. I’ll also be using a Wippermann reusable link for convenience when ‘deep’ cleaning.

I have always used KMC Missing link on Shimano 10spd and 11spd and they work great. I reuse them as well without issue, but forked out for the tool that opens them, best $9 ever spent.
Been using sram quick links. Had a spare set of body clip pliers at work I ground down that work mint as a quick link “de-linker” … I am interested in these Wippermann Quick Connex links though!
wipperman all the way, super easy and no tools

I live in Northern Maine. The roads have a lot of grit and dirt on them and it rains a lot in the summer. In Europe they call it Belgium toothpaste. I get a lot of dirt on the chain (and the bike and myself) when out riding.
BEFORE using the reusable link I would get about 1000 miles on my road bike before it would have to be changed out.
I now get over 2X that. I get even more on my tri bike. Why I do not know. Maybe more long steady state riding in the same gear and less shifting and climbing. I believer that not only does the removable link allow for better and easier cleaning but it gets the chain cleaner and it lasts longer.
The other difference is the lube you use. Try this stuff.

It is the only thing I have used that is better than using motor oil or WD 40.
Another vote for the Wipperman Connex link. It works on any chain (Wipperman, SRAM, KMC, Shimano). I don’t know why everyone else hasn’t copied this link.
You can’t beat KMC chains when it comes to price, and they work fine.

New group goes on with the Shimano chain and KMC Missing Link. The break off Shimano pins are donkey balls, but I’m not going to toss out a pretty good chain.
After that, it’s just KMC chains and they come with a new link, no need to reuse. By reuse, I mean to use it on a different chain. When I take a chain off to soak and clean, the link stays with it until it all gets tossed.
The KMC Missing Link install and remove tools are great and cheap. Love 'em.
You can close this one down. The Whipperman seems to win hands down, and I can’t argue with that one.

I’m “upgrading” to 11 speed next year and can’t find 11 speed Connex links anywhere. Does anyone know of a supplier?
According to FB, available in November (see the comments on the left under “posts to page”).
X whatever on the Wipperman Connex. I use paraffin to lube my chains. Connex makes it simple to take chains off, pop them in the hot wax, and slap them back on the bike. Drivetrain has never stayed so clean and smooth.
