I’m in the market for a road bar, and I’m not sure how difficult the time savings are going to be to quantify, but I assumed the slowtwitch cognoscenti would have opinions or data (or both). I’m trying to get an estimate over a 40K for a lone rider.
Thanks!
Edit: I screwed this up pretty badly. I wrote basebar in the posting, but I meant what the title indicated. I’m looking for an aero road bar. I’ve edited it above.
Are these static tests, or with a riders arms, BTA torpedo bottle, computer, brake cables, stem and mounted on a bike with bar tape, and levers?
Not that you can really test the above?
Looks like upgrading my bars could buy me 2-3 watts. Hmmm $1000-1200 for 3W… ummmm…I don’t think so. My Bontrager carbon base bar and extensions are probably close to the Alumina.
the tri rig protocol is detailed in the tri-rig article about it, you can go read up on that.
the cervelo one, maybe damon remembers a bit, I don’t.
Alpha bar is ‘only’ ~$800ish
=)

Alloy vision is virtually the same in frontal area as the carbon and can be had like… $100.
The Vision bar that did well in the cervelo test was the older integrated one, with it’s own integrated stem and integrated extentions. Very little adjust-ability. Very different from the 3 piece (base bar, stem, clipon) setups whether you get those in carbon or not.

I think to really make the old alu Vision base bar “aero”, you need to cut off the upturned ends, no?
If you are looking for an aero BASEbar… or a set of aerobars (with pads and extensions), please change your title. An aero road bar goes on road bikes… not TT bikes.
I think there’s a discussion of two different types of bars here. The title asks about an aero ROAD bar, but many are bringing up basebars like the vision alloy. If the op wants a curved road bar, think about the Zipp sl70 aero. I grabbed one from chain love for $250, but I’ve seen used ones on ebay for good prices. Amazon has them for around $300. It’s the upgraded version of the vuka sprint and it’s pretty sweet. Good routing, stiff, aero, looks cool. A great addition to my s2.
If the op wants basebar for a tri bike, check out the svet series from profile design. I use the svet zero with no drop and flat horns and love it. It cost me about $180 from trisports.com with a 20% off coupon.

Is the Vision Bar on the 2009 Specialized Transition comp the one you are talking about?
