Take a 73 degree road bike and put on a Profile Fast Forward seat post and suddenly you have 77-78 degrees. Someone tell me what the disadvantage of this is, please, as it all seems too simple. Does it affect handling adversely…does it affect the stiffness of the frame somehow?
I tried this seatpost and lost power! But then, I’m an oddity I think.
Good discussion a while ago on this same seat post. http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=2116246;search_string=profile%20fast%20forward%20;#2116246
I have a friend adding it to his road bike this spring because his wife will not let him get a new tri bike. My suggestion of getting a new wife was not persuasive.
You move your weight distribution towards the front on a bike that was not designed for it. The effect is exacerbated when you start adding aerobars too. Handling can end up rather interesting…
A tri bike has different geometry designed for the more forward weight distribution.
If you want to get a TT bike, this is plan B. Ive ran one, no handling problems.
If you need one let me know, teammate has a alu. PD fast forward for sale, a quick cheap fix. KW
Used to run a Thomson setback post turned around forwards, pretty similar. Front end geometry may not have been ideal, but worked fine for years until I could afford a separate Tri/TT bike.
Thanks for the feedback, everybody. Sounds like a good option if money is limited.
My first season, I rode a Specialized Multi which was their sort of road bike marketed to triathletes. I put a FF seat post on it and did fine with it.
