Fast and Furious F-1 Duathlon

Anyone ever done this event? If so, is it worth doing?

I havent done this race, but have done a ton of Jacks races over a decade. This race I think is almost on a completely closed course, I think even the bike may be on a closed loop course around the speedway. I think is was fairly windy the last few years, the course is flat and exposed if the wind is blowing.

If you are referring to the F-1 format…I tried one last year but my bike broke about 300yds into the first bike leg : )

The format is fun. Its a different race for sure.

I’ll sign up again this year and attempt it again. The course they setup in the one I do is really more suited for a road bike not a tri bike. its a very tight course with tons of turns. Almost nothing straight away for more than 200 yards at a time.

I can feel the pain in my quads just reading the format

mmm
.

Fun stuff!

You hammer the run, hammer the bike, hammer the run, hammer the bike…

I have done a number of Jack’s du’s and they are inexpensive, well-run and pretty much play by the rules. Sure, they’re no frill, but a nice way to make some speedwork a lot more fun.

Give it a try…I mean du.

This race is not held at the speedway as mentioned in an earlier post. This is held entirely inside Lynn Creek park @ Joe Pool Lake. Before the property explosion around the lake, we used to be able to utilize the roads outside the park. Then it was a 2mi./10mb/2mi/10mb/2mi. IRP races now utilize the dam for the bike ride, a 5.5 mi. out and back. Other than the incline to get up on the dam, all flat and fast. Runs are pancake flat as well. Usually windy. Small fields (+/- 100) but still fun.

Wow…the one I do is a swim/bike/run/swim/bike/run

Then they take the top 10 overall and make them do a short version of swim/bike/run for the final stnadings. Yep, ya race twice!!

If you were doing this on the cheap I wonder how you would do timing? Do the organizers who do these just include transition times into the bike? and is there “free” software designed to do these events (any multisport event)? Looks like a fun thing to do and could be done in our local Metro-parks with a closed loop. Maybe runner stay on the exercise paths and bike on the road?

I ma just trying to figure out the easiest way to do these in a “training” sort of way, not a big organized event.

start everyone at the same time and hand the trophy to the guy who gets back first?

ha ha!! Good point, but I bet the racers, even if it were free or minimal entry fee would want there splits.

Ray

hand everyone a garmin 305 and let them do it themselves!

wait that isn’t cheap

For all you midwesterners, there is a new race in Madison, WI, SUN 5/24, consisting of a 275m pool swim, 8.5 mi road bike, 1.5 mi trail run, then whole course again in an F1 format. You can find info about the GC Enduro TRI at trifind.com
