Any New Englanders racing the Farmington Valley Offroad Tri this year? I’ve done a couple Xterra’s but never this one, curious if any other Slowtwitchers are going to be in the area. Most of the Xterra Points Series races are Sprint distance, but this is one of the rare Olympic distance events (except for the bike, which is 12-13 miles but will probably take over an hour.) A buddy of mine told me the bike course is used for cyclocross events as well, so it won’t be overly technical for those who are not confident mountain bikers.
wasn’t that run fun! specially loved the last mile!
being from Hawaii and not too used to my wetsuit, I panicked around 200m in, ended up taking off the wetsuit top (desoto 2-piece) tucking it down my suit bottom and towing it the whole way. set a nice personal worst of 30min, just 8 min slower than expected:) Plus all that fun muck and algae stuff.
Fun race though, that bike course downhill was lots of fun.
yea, I did not have a great swim either. On Sat evening I ate at a local Italian place and got a bit of food poisoning. I woke up at about 2 AM with a mass evacuation from both ends!!! I was hurting pretty bad Sunday but thought I would take it minute by minute. After the swim, I was ready to pull the plug, but soldiered onto the bike. About half way up the climb, I turned around and called it a day (so I thought). Somebody saw me riding down and asked if I was ok? They said, “just ride the first lap and enjoy the course”. So i u-turned and went back up, I started to feel better and just cruised to the base…by then I was feeling half ok, and decided to go on. I ended up hanging in there for 5th in class. I am bummed because i wanted top 3, but felt better knowing I did not bail after flying out there. BTW, my legs are still tender from that damn downhill run!
Ouch, running downhill is the worst in my opinion. I hope the legs recover for Sunday. What age group are you in? If you’re in the 30-34, you’re invited to my house on Saturday night for some Veal Parm!!
30-34 it is! Veal Parm…? I think I will try something safe!! I actually only had spaghetti with meat sauce and salad. I am staying with Anthony Snoble. See ya there, I will probably preride Sat mid day.
Hey Kurt - I think we met out in Tahoe through Jay Haachadorian. I’m actually in the 25-29 AG for Xterra Points, but since I turned 30, races class me in the 30-34. See you on Sunday.
Kurt - Nice win on Sunday! My wife videotaped the transitions & the finish, you must’ve had a great run. I “won” the 30-34 age group, but those hills on the run contributed to me fading from 6th off the bike back to 9th in the end. Gotta hit the track some more i guess… See you in Farmington.
thanks, I felt ok. A bit flat on the bike from the 6 hour drive Sat and no ride due to the rain. I wish I had a few laps on the bike course too as it was so twisty. I am still 95% sure i am going to Farmington. It is funny, I hate to drive on the weekends and so I am always last minute for these things. Take care.
