I’m coming up short in the memory department at the moment. I’m trying to make a list of famous bicycling scenes in movies.
I mean, these have to be famous, pretty much everybody’s seen them kind of scenes. (Ex. E.T. riding into the sky, Napolean doing a crotch-plant on the top-tube, ect…)
What’s your favorite? And yes I know about “Breaking Away” I’m looking for some more recents and “main stream” scenes.
Thanks.
How about after PeeWee Herman wipes out and then stands up and says “I meant to do that.”
That cracks me up every time I see it. Okay, so I’m easily amused.
Goonies: The older brother, Brant, has to ride a little kids bike (girls I think, with training wheels and everything) to track down Mikey and the rest of the Goonies.
What about in Wayne’s world when they are playing Hockey in the street and a girl on the bike says “Hey Wayne” trying to flirt with him and then rides into a parked car.
when tom cruise has a midnight-sprint on his friend’s 10-speed…(risky business)
or…

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Robert Redford performing some stunts on a bike and riding a girl around on the handlebars
Wizard of Oz: I’ll get you and your little dog too
.
Breaking Away when the dude finally gets to ride with the Italians and they put a bike pump in his spokes.
There are good bike stunts on Jackass.
The witch riding the bike in the Wizard of Oz.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: Robert Redford performing some stunts on a bike and riding a girl around on the handlebars
I think that was Paul Newman.
HH
How about in Navy SEALs when Charlie Sheen’s charcter’s car gets towed, and he steals the kids bike and catches the tow truck?
My favorite scene in Breaking Away is when he is singing the Italian opera and the father goes to tell him to turn it down and then comes back shell-shocked and his wife asks “Whats the matter” then the father says “he’s shaving” then the wife says “so whats wrong with that” and then the father says “He’s shaving his legs”.
don’t forget kevin bacon in quick silver. about a wall street guy who becomes a bike messenger. I recall some good stunt riding in that but it was 20 years ago.

yeah, that movie had all of my favorite flatlanders(like pat romano, martin aprijo, etc…)
howabout nelson vails doing most of the messenger stunts on that fixie…
Darn! I was going to say that one.
The Napoleon Dynamite scene was good too.
How about Better Off Dead? I WANT MY TWO DOLLARS!!!
American Flyers. The best is when there is a breakaway and the the guy yells “There nobodies, they will die in the hills”
“Whew … I was almost gone with the Schwinn…” Kermit D. Frog – The Muppet Movie.
Just after jumping of his bike just before a Steam Roller takes it out.
Nothing better than Kermit on a Bike.
It sure ain’t mainstream, but you’ve got to see “The Triplets of Belleville”!!!
How about Meg Ryan in “City of Angels” in the minutes before the logging truck pulls out…
Or at the beginning of the movie when she’s commuting?
how about when Ray Liota mounts a bike in Hannibal before getting his brain fed to him? It’s always bugged me because you can tellthe guy has never been on a bike before just by the way he mounts the bike.
I second the leg-shaving scene, but I can’t believe no one has mentioned ET
“BMX Bandits” with Nicole Kidmann(sp?)… I think that was her first movie… about three bmx’ers fighting crime…
it was cool to see her ride a few scenes on a bmx bike… (1983 or so)
I am embarressed to say I saw that movie Wimbeldon. (My wife made me do it) The main male characters brother is the ultimate bike poser. Every time he stops and leans his bike on something it falls over.
Let me stress this, the bike comedy is not enough reason to see this movie.
