Thanks for posting this

They are fathers, sons, brothers, husbands…

Thanks to all who have served.

A sobering post!!! I wish the lame stream media would cover more of what these heroes do and sacrifice. Spend less time on what some loser celebrity has to say or do.

Man, I forget most of those who have died over there are just kids, 18-22.

Great post, thanks for posting this. Many stories of true heroes. I’m posting one here as an example, but there are many other touching stories.

Navy Lt. Miroslav S. Zilberman Died April 02, 2010 serving during Operation Enduring Freedom

31, of Columbus, Ohio; assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 121, based at Naval Base Norfolk, Va.; died after his E-2C Hawkeye crashed into the Arabian Gulf on March 31, 2010. The recovery effort was abandoned on April 2, 2010 and his body was not recovered.

Ordered crew mates to eject before crash
The Associated Press
Miroslav Zilberman moved with his parents from Ukraine to a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, in the early 1990s. They wanted to get him away from the possibility of forced military service to a place that promised a better life.
But Zilberman, who went by Steven, always admired the service of his grandfather, Gregory Sokolov, who was a major in the Soviet Army in World War II. After graduating from Bexley High School in 1997, Zilberman decided he wanted to defend his adopted country and became a Navy pilot.
Zilberman, 31, was returning from a mission in Afghanistan on March 31 when his E-2C Hawkeye began having mechanical problems. He ordered his three crewmen to bail. The plane crashed into the Arabian Gulf.
Zilberman’s body was never recovered, and he was declared dead. His crew mates all survived.
“Lieutenant Zilberman was an exceptional Naval Officer and pilot who embodied the best of what America represents,” said Capt. Roy Kelley.
Zilberman was based at Naval Station Norfolk, Va. While in the Navy, he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
He is survived by his wife, Katrina, and children, Daniel, 4, and Sarah, 2.

There were others in the crashes, but I only listed those whom I knew.

Thank you for the timely reminder. Several of these young men are local to my area.
I’m proud to be the mom of a US Marine currently serving in Afghanistan. OORAH!

Thanks Clutch, It’s so sad to see these people who have made the ultimate sacrifice. I will remember them all.

Thank you

Thanks for posting. Today my wife and I went to Fort Benning’s National Infantry Museum, they had the Traveling Vietnam Wall on exhibition. Very humbling. My wife’s dad was a POW there and made it back, but to see 58,261 names of people who didn’t make it back was very emotional.

I was told by a friend that they had moved the Infantry Museum and it was very nice. Were you ever at the old one and how do they compare? I definately need to make it up there sometime.

And yes seeing those names is extremely humbling. I am excited because tomorrow for the first time in years I can attend a Memorial Day ceremony.

Yes, they moved it and I have been to the old one, back in the early 80’s. 100% better, very modern http://www.nationalinfantrymuseum.com/ The only thing I don’t think was well planned out was an indoor rifle range. We didn’t go in, but you could hear the firing throughout the “benning gallery”. Pretty sure they were just firing blanks, but it was annoying trying to hear the exhibits.

Thanks for posting this Clutch. As an active duty Marine assigned to a reserve unit one of my responsibliites is to make casulty calls to the Next of Kin. To date I’ve had done 6, two of which were killed in action (Both Iraq). Toughest thing I’ve ever done in terms of emotions, yet in the end satisfying knowing I did my best to lay a brother to rest and take care of his family.

Blessings to all those who have sacrificed, served, and are currently serving.
