What’s with the inappropriate liking of stuff? I saw two this week. One person posted about an aunt that died suddenly. She got about 15 likes.
Your aunt died in a car crash? That’s awesome! Like!
Today someone posted that someone threatened to kill her in a store today because she wouldn’t give up the last set of candle holders to the threatener. 10 likes and counting.
I don’t do Facebook but isn’t “like” just an acknowledgement that you read the post, agree with it, or in the case of bad news, commiserate with the poster?
I would say something like 4 to 6 months ago I stayed seeing the trend of people using likes as an acknowledgement that your post was viewed. Not sure what tripped the change, but some friends of mine started liking vetting, where they only occasionally liked an odd post before. I guess someone thought it would be good fb etiquette.
I can live with the “Likes” but the people who just “share” everything on their pages are the ones who piss me off. I have to scroll through shared page after page from the same person and it just annoys the hell out of me. I’m tempted to unfriend him but I’ve known him for so long I just can’t bring myself to do it.

You don’t have to unfriend him just block his news feed. I’ve done this to a few people.

I know that that is what people will say but just leave a comment. To ‘like’ that someone died seems crass to me.

I think this is the case. It’s kind of a way of commiserating without actually replying with a comment. Sometimes it does seem awkward though or at least I’m not always sure how it would come across.

I block the specific pages they’re sharing things from. In my case with all of my triathlete friends it’s always motivational posters and such. I assume in the case of most of them that the only person they’re really trying to motivate is themselves.
Not really.
I just missed getting in on the fun. Now I am to scared to jump in, out of embarrassment that my real life friends will have hundreds of virtual friends and I will have 5.
